What I like about old school, is that it’s generally easier to maintain and work on as a home mechanic.

These days it appears the main tool for a modern car mechanic is a laptop and other electrical diagnostic tools which can at times be proprietary.

Yep. My last vehicle was an Isuzu Trooper. When the ECU needed to be replaced, the new ECU had to be programmed. This could only be done after it was installed, and because Isuzus weren't being sold here anymore, there was no one locally who even had the software to do it. I had to send the vehicle to Long Beach (from San Diego) because that was the nearest place to get it done.

Yes the 4.0L and 5-speed auto have been around for a long time, but I'm hoping this rig will last me at least 25 years. I don't plan on it being a daily driver for more than a few years. As long as I take care of it, keep the miles down, and hopefully avoid accidents, I have absolutely no doubt it will do just that.
Agreed. But no need to restrain yourself to keep the miles down. Just drive it! There are lots of daily drivers with lots of miles out there still going strong.
