I'm not sure about other states but in South Carolina you have 4 weeks after you purchase a vehicle to get it registered, just have the bill of sale and notarized, title signed and notarized into your name and you must also have a current insurance binder for the vehicle in your possession.

If you don't have a dealer tag expect to get pulled over at some point.

Every used vehicle I have purchased was from a private seller and I have been pulled over in most of them because of no tag, and all except 2 times I had to educate the LEO on the South Carolina state law giving you 4 weeks to register the vehicle, after they got on the radio and or computer they came back and said have a nice day, the 2 times I didn't have to do the education it was State Troopers

Anyhow I'm looking to buy from a "non rust belt state" what ever that may be PA ish and south, even the west coast possible

My question who has bought a car online, what steps do you reccomend prior to and during the buyin gprocess.

Any leads on sites besides fourms, CL, FB market place, cargurus.com etc.?

Biggest points I will do:

Pre inspection check by a local garage

Not carrying the 10-13k in cash during travel ( potential seizure by police for suspected illicit activities) Possibly doing SWIFT or similar wire service

Thank you!

You find a good one yet? I have a 2005 Sport Edition V8 for sale in MD. It’s got 182k miles on it and about $18k invested in the last 18 months. Asking $9995. Lived most it’s life in VA so pretty rust free for a 14 year old Toyota.

Flying from South Louisiana out to Vegas to pick up an '02 Trans Am. It's going to be a 30 hour drive home, with some added stops. Taking my 6 year old and will make some memories. Looking forward to it.
