NADA Values

Out of curiosity I checked the NADA value (KBB values are nonsense) of my 4Runner. I have a 2007 SR5 V8 4x4 with 104,000. It's had everything serviced (timing belt, water pump, brakes, power steering flush, new battery, new BFG K02's, etc.).

NADA Values:
Avg Trade In: $8,925
Clean Trade In: $9,825
Clean Retail: $12,775

Maybe I'm biased because I love this truck but there is no way I would sell my 4R for that kind of money. I'll keep this baby until the day I die. She gets me anywhere I want to go in NC. Snow, mud, mountains, beach.

What do you see yours valued at and would you sell it for that much?

Honestly I think the values are off. Ive seen 4runners consistently go higher that the book value. I have also seen other vehicles consistently sell for lower than the value.

As someone who has bought many cars at dealer auctions, I can say that book value is only a rough estimate. Toyota’s of all types consistently go for more than book, while some other brands, dodge trucks being one, often go for much lower.

I'll look up book values from all three main companies, but I always cross compare with what actual vehicles are selling for. The ranger that I sold before buying my 4runner went for more than double any of the book values. That said, when I bought it a year or two prior, book value was actually correct.

A 4Runner, even with high mileage, sells in a couple days here in NC.
But in FL they are much cheaper and sit around much longer.
Certainly where you live is a big factor in what it's "worth" to the buyer/seller.

I work for a car dealer, and NADA is just a rough number. I've seen it high on some cars, and super low on others. You really have to look at that, KBB, Manheim MMR (you won't have access to that) and Black Book (probably don't have access to that either). That would give you a good estimate of value, but obviously it's only worth how much someone is willing to pay for it.

I wish I had access to Black Book values. I help family members negotiate prices on car purchases. So for a used car the best I can do is have them try to get a price below NADA Loan Value. Not sure if that's optimal given the access I have and it's limitations.
