Hello every one it has been a very long time since i have last posted. But i figured i would try to share some insight and show you guys my next Expo trailer build.
Two years ago i decided to start building my own trailer having a RTT i decided that this was my best option, no more taking down the tent just to leave the camp site for a bag of ice or what not. I stated on my build not going to lie dirtco's trailer is where a lot of my inspiration came from. but there is no where near the amount of time or craftsman ship in mine, his is on a totally different level. it was more of a quick lets get this done before summer type of project.
After using the trailer for two years there has been a lot of thoughts in my mind on things i would have done different. But instead of tearing this entire trailer apart i decided to embark on a new journey of building one so here we are.
here are a few good things about the old trailer that i really enjoy
- You can leave it and leave the tent set up.
- Extreamly stable with the out rigers down
- The fold down kitchen area works great
- Gear always stays dry
And the list of what i would like to change
- I want to be able to lower and raise the tent and have it not be fixed
- The frame of the trailer is way to high
- The box is a good size but it can be about a foot taller if the frame wasn't so high
- I never did put power or solar like i planed
- No cooler slide out on the small door like i planed
- A little on the heavy side
- The axle is a 1stGEN 4Runner axle and same with the suspension
So the metal has been picked up parts have been ordered and its time to get started on the new and improved trailer. i will be using thinner wall box tubing on the box this time to save on weight and using a little more wood in some applications not only to save on some weight but make the trailer a little more appealing to the eye. i order Timbrin axle less suspension system for the running gear and i am using liner actuators to move the tent up and down. I will be putting solar on the trailer along with battery's to run all my applications and a 12v fridge "thinking dometic". the last trailer i welded every seam solid and it was such a waste of time i am a welder by trade and i went way over board this time i will mare then likely seal a lot more of the seams with silicone instead of running 50 feet of weld
Here is some pictures of the old trailer and I will keep you posted on the new build!
