Windshield Conundrum

Hey ya'll. So I've been having an issue since the first time I went to replace the wipers on my 2018 4runner.

Every beam blade and some hybrid/traditional blade will not get the top of the windshield due to it's curve near the roof.

Ive tried most brands and different types of blades all with the same results.

I can't be the only one with this issue.

Does anyone know any fixes?

The reason this is an issue is during the winter ice and snow will gather up there and cause issues with the wipers working correctly.

I outlined the areas that the wipers have issues with-

Not sure how a different blade will make a difference. You need to get longer ones.

But at the same time you need to make sure it doesn't interfere with the other blade when making it longer.

Thats the thing, I can't go longer because it'll then be off the windshield. Stock is 24" so im actually gonna see how a 23" does. Only problem is that doesn't solve my winter issue because the only 23" blade is a traditional blade.

I was hoping I'm just missing something that someone else has found out.

Don't think so the length is the length.

I don't live where there is snow obviously so I don't got any other ideas.

Did you have the same issue when it had OEM wipers on it?

If not then I would go with OEM blades, I would think Toyota put what it needed on it when it was new!

HMMMMMM. Being as we have only had ours a week, I'll be looking to see how the wipers work on the windshield here in Northern Michigan. I do know that a lot depends on the snow you are getting. If it is wet heavy snow, no wiper will really keep up to keeping the glass clean. Good luck.

I replaced my front wiper blades last week with the Michelin brand from Costco. Nothing fancy and they were a great price. They work great too.

Unfortunately we dont have a costco by me. I've tried numerous Rainx, Michelin, Trico, Bosch and a few other brands with no avail.

Trico actually told me to try and bend the top half of the blade a hair to account for the curve. I did but then it created uneven pressure which caused streaking elsewhere.

The OEM ones do it bu not nearly as bad. The problem with the OEM ones are that they still freeze up in the winter. Every vehicle I've had before this I ran Trico Ice wipers and they're amazing.

I've replaced the rubber on the OEM wipers once and it didn't change a thing.

Do 4runners have heated windshield? Does that prevent such buildup?

Some do. Mind does. It helps but not a ton when you're on the highway or something where you're constantly moving.
