Sold a 2018 Yukon Denali to buy a 2020 TRD PRO. What a huge mistake that was.
I know i'll probably get roasted for the comment since i'm on a 4runner forum, but its just an opinion. This is my 3rd 4Runner (2001,2008,2020) and while I love the look of it, I absolutely hate driving it. Its not terrible in town, but I mostly drive interstate, and if there's even the slightest incline its constantly switching gears up and down. It continues to do this until I either floor it, or the road flattens out.
I just ordered a Sprint Booster and hopefully that helps to improve the throttle response and drivability. If not, i'll have a Army Green 2020 TRD Pro for sale for anyone looking

Sprint Booster will probably not do anything for the vehicle wanting to downshift from overdrive on the hills at highway speeds. The 5th gen likes to get into overdrive as soon as it can and stay there. I find it to be the worst when you are rolling at approx. 40mph and you give it some gas and it defiantly refuses to grab a lower gear to accelerate... but I've gotten used to it and just give some more pedal.
Your modestly powered 4R is no match on the pavement to your old Denali that has a 140 more horses, 190 more foot pounds of torque and 10 speeds to transmit it through. I think you better get back into a large displacement V8 while you still can.

Well, I am actually thinking of using the 98 4Runner we recently got to replace my old Jeep XJ Cherokee with 335K miles on it. Love the old Cherokees!

If depreciation weren't so horrid, it'd be a Cayenne Turbo or G63.

Since you are not into offroading or towing just grocery shopping and home depot runs get a KIA or Explorer or Hyundai Santa Fe. All of those SUV were created for the urban buyer that want the look and flexibility of an SUV but could care less about the offroad capabilities. All have better mpg and features than our 4 runners and most are cheaper. Some clearly outperformed our vehicles from light to light acceleration. Many people purchase 4 runners because they want to pretend like they are the rugged bearded offroad type but the reality is they are Audi or BMW SUV type driver. Nothing wrong with that but you can't be upset with the 4 runner when it isn't softer type SUV. When I purchased a house in tucson my bmw x5 was no longer the type of SUV we needed. In LA the x5 was king but in the outdoor rough roads high heat of tucson the 4 runner is the right SUV.

I have a Macan 2.0T and the wife has a JGC V6 Limited.
Both are great in their own ways, but I still drive the Trail more than anything else.
The Porsche is fast, gets great gas mileage, handles well, and is a great long distance crossover.
The JGC also gets great gas mileage and is comfier than the 4runner, but smaller. It does everything better around town, but isn't an off roader obviously.

Grand Cherokee. Nice on road comfort. Capable off road. Nice style. Bad maintenance reviews.

A 2017+ Nissan Armada, known elsewhere as the "Y62 Patrol".
For some inexplicable reason, I've always loved Nissan trucks/SUVs. They seem to offer a lot of value, they're great offroad and, for the most part, they're very reliable. Our other vehicle is an Xterra PRO-4X, and it's been an outstanding SUV.
A done-up Patrol is one of the best looking and sounding SUVs around. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaRvjFnlKoE

I haven't seen a single Armada that's reliable.... the rear ends are fairly weak offroad, just like in the Titan.

The new Armada isn't based on the Titan anymore, so I'm not sure if they still have rear diff issues. But yeah, I do remember reading about the undersized Titan rear diffs and failures.

The Armada is waaaay too ugly for me to even consider it.
Give me an older Pathfinder or Isuzu Trooper.

My wife's and my Audi experience has been the most reliable set of vehicles we've ever owned, rivaling my 1995 4Runner and my 1986 FJ60.
My daily driver for the past 12 years has been an Audi A4 (3.2L naturally aspirated V6 with a 6 speed manual transmission). I special ordered it and picked it up Jan 2 2008. It has been well maintained and has had no outstanding issues.
My wife's daily driver was a 2008 A6 Avant (3.2L naturally aspirated V6 with a 6 speed automatic transmission) that we special ordered and picked up Jan 2 2008, until some distracted bozo ran a red light and T-boned her. Insurance totaled it and gave us 25% of purchase price with 120,000 miles in Jan 2017. We replaced that with an Audi Q5 (3.0L supercharged V6 with 6 speed automatic transmission). We have had zero issues with this vehicle either. It's been her daily driver ever since.
I sold my (never had an issue) 2010 Audi S5 (4.2L naturally aspirated with a 6 speed manual transmission) because I am no longer active in taking it to race tracks like Road America to see how fast I can turn a lap and that it was no longer a challenge to see 150+mph.
I replaced the S5 with the 2019 4Runner because I was looking to get back to my off-road ways.
