using ethanol in fuel is ignorant.
It artificially raises the cost of corn, animal feed, and beef, pork and chicken.
Need to do away with any federal subsidies for using corn based ethanol, and remove any EPA requirements for it's use.
it's less efficient, which negates any supposed 'clean air' gains from using it.
Once again, it it was really any better, the free market would have allowed it to take over, but since it's not, the government has to mandate it's use, and subsidize it.

I ran a few tanks of 90 octane ethanol free gas for shits and giggles, and it was almost entirely identical to the 15% 87 octane. Over ~400 miles I MIGHT have averaged 1 mpg better. It ran no different, felt identical, and cost a lot more.
Full (E85) Ethanol is amazing with boost though...

That shouldn't be the case. The computer doesn't adjust, your right foot does. All the computer should be doing is maintaining a level of timing that eliminates knock and it will do that on the fly instantly. Ethanol of clear gas shouldn't be effecting that as the fuel octane rating is after blending.
90 octane clear fuel with have the same resistance to knock as 90 octane blended. It will just simply take slightly less clear fuel to produce the same amount of energy.

"87 is 2.86"
Ouch. I filled up yesterday at the nice place near me that's part of the Top Tier gas program and 87 was only $2.29. I didn't even check the cut-rate joints for cheap gas.
Okay, according to gasbuddy.com the Citgo 5 miles away near town has regular for $2.05.

This 2016 TEP w/KDSS is a big step up from the 1986 Subaru GL wagon I used on the Outer Banks beaches for 14 years. That thing would go anywhere in the sand on 185/70-13 tires. Dual range 5 speed, factory skid plate, 3 position manually adjustable rear shocks and armored exhaust. All factory, including the white spoke wheels. The front sub frame finally rusted apart.

True, I should have said it takes a couple tanks for the timing to advance when switching to 91 octane. It only takes a gallon of 87 to adjust timing back down from 91 octane. Its about octane not pure gas in regards to the delayed timing advancement. I do see slightly better MPGs with pure gas. Not enough to totally justify the cost. But I also like buying/supporting products I believe in, like pure gas. It would be terrible if it was no longer available.
Point is, people who run one tank of high octane gas will not see much change due to higher octane. The timing gains with the Dual VVT come after a couple consecutive tanks of high octane. Yes, the small but real advantage of pure gas is immediate as far as I know.

There’s plenty of places you just can’t get gas with ethanol. I spent 2 years living in a town that only sold 100% gas. Not a single gas station carried gas with ethanol.

Since this is non-5th Gen related I'm moving this to General Discussion.
And everyone knows never use ethanol in a nightshade edition truck.

True, but that's also why it handles better on black ice

Agree 100%.
I'd agree 1000% but that's just silly. Like corn. Corn is silly.

OK, the whole ethanol thing aside, I gotta ask. How classic is that Alfa. I spent 3 1/2 years in Italy while in the Military, and became an Alfa lover. I had 5 different ones while there, and another after I returned to states. Sadly I no longer have that '68 GTV 1750, and regret letting it go all those years ago. And with the skyrocketing price of the 'Classic' Alfa, I will probably never get the chance to own one again.
