Yes no problem, but I'm curious as to why? I have a place near me that sells non-ethanol premium but it's nearly twice the price of regular. I run it in my classic Alfa Romeo as that car was built before they started blending ethanol in fuel and parts of the fuel system aren't totally ethanol compatible. But the 4Runner fuel system is totally compatible with weak ethanol blends - up to E15 at least.

you can use non ethanol gasoline .. 90 octane is good .. the most ethanol is 15%.. 87-90 octane is a good range.. over 90 is a waste of money.. you may get more MPG using the non ethanol. post back how the MPG changed.

I think engine will running cleaner and more efficient...and price is not even close to nearly twice...price for non ethanol is 3.05 per gallon...87 is 2.86,91 is 3+ and for 93 is 3.40+...so really no big deal... Older Alfas are awesome cars...

It will help with mpg but not by much. I run non-ethanol 93 every 5th or 6th fill-up in both of our vehicles to help clean the system. I run it exclusively in the 86 4runner. I went from 17+ mpg to 19+. The old truck loves the good stuff.

ethanol is the cleaner fuel because it has a detergent effect. ethanol does have lower energy density which is why you see an increase in mpg when using non-ethanol gas.

It's my understanding the computer takes 1,000 miles to fully adjust timing to take advantage the pure gas. It only takes 5 miles for the computer to revert back to blended fuel map. This protects the engine.
I don't drive a lot and pure gas 91 octane is only $.30 more per gallon. So I use 91 octane pure gas exclusively.
I got 20.9 Hwy MPGs a couple weeks ago. I get 17.5 mpg around town.
I support Corn Growers but do not like ethanol in my gas!
But yes, 4runners can run up to 15% ethanol with out harm.

The truck will run great on non-ethanol, you should get at least 1-2 mpg better mileage.
On the other hand, the higher cost of non-ethanol will make it a money-losing proposition. Back of the envelope calcs in my own personal experience requires more like ~8 mpg improvement to break even with the $1+ per gallon higher price over regular unleaded with ethanol. 8 mpg improvement is not achievable in my case.

I don't worry about putting ethanol in the 4Runner... It's cheaper and the gains of using non-ethanol don't outweigh the cost. I put some Lucas fuel system cleaner in about every 4th tank fill, year around.
My gas doesn't sit in the 4Runner tank long enough to worry about moisture absorption by ethanol...
Now in my small engines and my '93 300ZX? Ethanol is the devil, I never use it in those engines. Ever.
BTW, I absolutely HATE ethanol. It's an artificial invention to use up the excess corn we grow in this country which has caused MANY fuel system failures and collateral costs to consumers. Same category of product as corn syrup. And before you go there, both my family and my wife's family grew up in corn country... southern Iowa. Both sides of our family still grow corn, and lots of it.

But for the OP somehow it's no more expensive. But yeah, for most people the cost outweighs any small efficiency gain. Here in Colorado it's quite rare and quite expensive. So the Alfa gets it and my yard engines get it late in the summer so they don't sit all winter with ethanol in the system but no way I could afford it for my Runner that I put 20k miles a year on.
I see the two reports of it being cheap are Illinois and Wisconsin - must just be cheap in that part of the country.

I seem to recall my owner's manual specifically stating NOT to use gasoline with more than 10% ethanol blended in... think it says that on my gas cap as well. It's a '14 so maybe the requirement is relaxed on newer models?

Ethanol free is better! Whether it's worth the cost difference is a personal choice.
