Air Mattress

With fall colors and fish staging about to run - a new 4mo old, my day long photo/filming trips will be scarce. Since the overnighters and weekend good byes are off the table due to wanting to be the family more, recently i have been waking up around 1-2am and heading out (furthest spot I go is about 4-4.5 hours away). Usually I like to arrive before sunrise - on the closer trips I even get some shut eye. Back seat is manageable but looking to lay down and get some quality ZZZ's when I can as when I come home its full on dad mode.

I googled and youtubed, results found... yes, but the threads are very short (1-2 posts).

Curious what experiences good/bad successful/fail people have had with air mattresses in the back of your 4runner. Im sure I could go to walmart and grab a air mattress shove it in the back and call it day... but am looking for maybe one that someone has feedback on with exact sizing (buy a twin, queen, etc) or make/model.

I need to keep my seats in unlike one of the links below due needing the back seat for transportation of the youngin when needed.

AirBedz Air Mattress in the 4Runner, Air Mattress in SUV (Setup/HowTo)

Found this one on amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Mattress-Camp...a-758061814523

any help is appreciated!

I have

https://www.amazon.com/goldhik-Infla...ateway&sr=8-30

and the fit is perfect for the 4runner with the back seats folded down. It is also a tight fit to sleep comfortably. I am 5'10" and I would say even that is a bit over the limit of being comfortable. if it is just you then it is less of an issue. If you can get a thicker air mattress with the same dimensions which gets you level with the back seat bottoms it will give you an extra 6-8" which would make all the difference in the world.

I've been eyeing the Exped Megamat for the past few weeks, the dimensions seem adequate and every review says it's fantastic to sleep on.

I bought a Coleman queen air mattress for $34.99. I didn’t need anything special and I’m not trying to be boujee and spend as much as possible. Fits perfect and does the job

yep flying solo.

Other then a camera bag, some boots/extra clothes that usually ride shotgun with me.

Saw this too but yes im not out to spend $350. Usually in summer a hammock suffices in the parking lot with a good bug net... Still could do it but its more damp in the mornings. When the snow starts to fly its not much fun haha no matter how warm your sleeping bag is.

EXPED MEGAMAT DUO 10 M (Free Shipping, Ships same day) - RIGd Supply

appreciate the feedbacks!

anyone know the difference between airbedz lite and the blue one?

LITE:
AirBedz Lite | PPI PV203C | Pittman Outdoors

Expensive 1:
AirBedz Original Truck Bed Air Mattress PPI 103 Midsize 6'-6.5' Short Bed (73"x55"x12")

The lite doesnt have a built in pump vs the other one...

I'm not a fan of "air" beds
I bought 2 of these large Brindle Pet beds.

Some people don't like the memory foam when it gets cold, but they work fine for me. I prefer a firm mattress, no movement, quiet.
By the time I throw down a blanket, pillow, small camping pad and a sleeping bag it's like an oven in the back.

The down side is they take up cargo space.

I'm 6'1" I have to sleep diagonal, run the front seats all the way up and put all my gear in the front or on top, but it's manageable for a few nights at a time.

I've got the expensive air bedz, bought it based on that Trail4R review. I got it off ebay for quite a bit less than the list price, and it works ok for the wife and me. It gets you over the top of wheel wells, which is good because it is wider, but bad in that it gets you closer to the ceiling. It will level it out pretty well even if you don't have the sliding tray to make the rear cargo area flat. It will also work with the seat bottoms in, but it is snug so you really need to enter from the side door to make it practicable. For just one person it would be total overkill, and really any old less expensive sleeping pad would do just fine. I have a tray in back now, but before that I used a rectangular memory foam dog bed from Costco under my sleeping pad to bring the cargo area up level with the seat backs.

Oh yeah, I'm 5'9" and the wife is 5'7", so if we were much taller the seat bottom in would probably be a deal killer with the Airbedz with the two of us on it.

I keep a Klymit Static V in my 4Runner. I also have the Static Luxe, which is twice as wide. Lifetime warranty, known for being able to fully inflate in less than 15 breaths, and me being 6'2", 215lbs, I dont touch the ground when laying on this. And it rolls up to a size about the size of a coffee can. Can't say enough good bout this thing.

Check around, especially their ebay store and you can find some deals:

Well to be fair, The bed goes in square and straight, I just sleep on it diagonally.

The wife (5'5") and I used to sleep in the back of the 3rd Gen....15 years ago, and maybe just a few pounds lighter back then. (HA!)

That was between the wheel wells back then, never thought to make a raised platform above them.

We've been using a queen size coleman airmattress for years but usually in a tent. My wife recently ordered 2 Overmont sleeping pads since one of our airmattresses has a leak. Wished we would have switched over to the pads sooner cause they are so easy to use, support our weight so much better and take up very little room when rolled up. Also, u don't have to worry bout bring a pump and batteries.

I've done many nights in the back with my twin air mattress. A full fits as well but since I'm sleeping solo I normally just use the twin. I think I paid $8 for this air mattress at walmart. I don't feel the hump at all between the trunk and backseats, if you don't have sliding tray you have the hump.
