Ditch lights off rear of 4Runner?

I'm planing on getting ditch lights for my 4R but i have not seen anyone put them on the rear as well?

So i have 2 questions.

1- Whats the most durable and compact ditch lights?

2- Has anyone mounted ditch lights on the back of the 4R hatch up high?

I cant add to the height of my 4R so maybe its not doable?

How about mounting ditch, or "work lights", under the rear spoiler?
I'm extremely new (one month) to 4runners, so just musing here.
Maybe something similar to this?

Not a bad idea. I could do a light bar of some kind. Not sure i would want it under the spoiler, may block my view out of the rear window and possibly obstruct the rear wiper.

I have seen a few guys that run them off the back. usually mounted to the corners of an aftermarket rack since I don't know of any brackets designed specifically for the roof/hatch.
Otherwise most will just tell you to run something down low either from the hitch or bumper.
Durability is subjective. you get what you pay for in most cases so just take that into consideration. if you plan to mount them high and rear facing you won't really need to worry about them taking a beating.

I have had some ditch lights on my 2003 4Runner (4th gen), so maybe I can help you out here. All of the following is my own personal thoughts and experiences after using ditch lights for about a year, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

If I were to do ditch lights again, I probably wouldn't do them at all. Ditch light brackets are meant to hold the LED pods/cubes, and I think they look a bit silly with larger lights on them. Because of that, I found that I wasn't getting the light I was looking for when I put them on there. I always wished the output was more.

I have gone through a couple of lights on my own rig, including spots, hyperspots, and floods. If I were deadset on doing ditch lights, I would 100% do floods and angle them to the sides.

I tried off-brand hyperspots as well as Rigid Hyperspots, and again, it just wasn't really the output I was looking for. It threw great light down range, but in very small, focused circles. That's when I figured I'd try spots. I liked the "beam pattern" better, but again, you're kind of limited just by the 4 LED nature of a pod. Then I did floods angled outwards and that was by far my favorite. I found straight forward the floods reflected off my hood a decent amount, so Ihttps://19216811.cam https://xender.vip https://testmyspeed.onl
angled them sideways, and they gave me great peripheral lighting without putting lights on a roof rack or anything. Nice for finding a decent place to camp at night.

Now on to your questions. If you are deadset on pods, I would do some floods angled to the side. Don't think they make many variations of wattage, so not sure it matters too much. Zero wind noise on mine. Wouldn't change anything on my install (although I just made sure to take my time on the install). For floods on ditch brackets, I don't think it is worth investing in high-end brands. Don't go pure shit, but something middle of the road should be more than enough for you. And finally, I think the standard 2x2 pod is the best looking, although you could always go with a bigger pod or circular light if you want.

I run lights off my rack up high in the rear. They're more often called "dust lights" when mounted to the rear and not necessarily "ditch" lights. Ditch lights are meant to, as they say, shine in front at a ditch. Dust lights are more commonly used more out west in the desert so that the trailing vehicle can see you in dusty environments. I have a pair of Baja Designs S2 Sports Work/Scene lights up there powered and switched by an sPOD. I also use them at night as a camp light as well. Obviously only works if you're hatch is closed. Off my rear bumper I have the same set of BD S2 Sports in white tapped into my reverse lights.

What I'd do if I were you is to get the LFD or Rago roof rack load bars and mount a BD S1 or S2 lights off the rear. They're small, compact, and put out a ton of light. Conversely you could also look into a rack like the Prinsu rack or Sherpa rack. They don't add any height to 4Runner as it's essentially the same high as the stock side rails.

Ditch/pillar lights are a great auxiliary light for someone that is on a budget but still needs improved lighting, or for someone who already has lighting but needs more periphery fill in lights. When properly aimed, they will increase your field of view allowing you to see oncoming obstacles with enough time to properly navigate them and be fully aware.

There's another thread on rear facing lights for closing farm gates. I could use some. Digging around google images I found this homemade rear bracket.

I messaged him through Facebook and asked if it was something he could modify for a 5th gen 4Runner.

Chatted with him a bit on facebook - says there are just too many bends required (4) to get it to work with the 4runner and make it so the hatch doesn't rub.

Is that with any gen runner? Seems like a lot of the products aren't available for runners. Id be super interested in the rear window panel with molle brackets attached.
