Has anyone had any experience with anything like this to black out their roof rack? I have a 2019 with a stock roof rack and am wanting to black it out temporarily for a year or two until I can get a Baja rack to replace it. I didn't really want to spend the money to get it powder coated for a temporary fix. Matte Black 3M™ Wrap | 1080 Series Matte Black Wrap Film
I just did this mod yesterday. I bought black vinyl and did it myself. Took about 30 min. Also did the silver on the side step. Made a Huge difference appearance wise and it was pretty easy. First time working with vinyl as well. So I say go for it. I wouldn’t plasti dip. Just won’t look right. I also did my rims. Since part of my rim is painted black I only had to do the face of the rims. Took a lot more time but worth it. All with the same 3m black vinyl.

Everything on my 4runner is blacked out.
Except the roof rack and wheel center caps.
I need to paint those black.
I'm also not a fan of smoked or blacked out tail lights, but considering it (if available)

Nice looking 4runner. Smoked tail lights can look nice, but I’ve noticed them to be a bit of a safety issue. My father’s Tahoe had blacked out tail lights, and I almost rear ended him a number of times because I wouldn’t notice his brake lights. He actually got pulled over one night because the cop thought his tail lights were out. As far as the roof rack goes, have you thought about replacing it with an aftermarket rack?
I'm a "form follows function" type. Though I think smoke taillights would look good, they're not practical.
Not interested in a tougher roof rack. I think a can of black Alumahyde would change the look satisfactorily.
I wound up ordering the satin black 3M vinyl. It was only $20 on amazon prime for the whole set, so I figure if it doesn't work out, it's only $20 lost.

I saw this tail light modification on trail4runner.com and bought a pair for my 2016 Black 4Runner. Putting film on the tail lights in Texas is going to result in the vehicle failing its safety inspection so that was not an option.
