Only damage is likely to happen on the R&R. I'm not saying carrying extra seals is a bad thing, I'm just saying you're unlikely to ever actually need to use them. Especially if you're not locked in the front.

Probably right. The fit is pretty loose in the bearings though. There's about 2-3mm of wobble in the cup by hand. Feels like a loose shaft could flop pretty good in the same type of situation where you'd blowup the t-case output shaft bearing/seal with a drive shaft failure. I'm thinking something more like WOT up a sand dune, not so much in slow speed rock crawling. I'm not sure how much the seal can take. May have plenty of flex to handle as much movement as the inner cup can move.
I'm unlocked my T4R. Went through 2 ARBs and sold warranty replacement #3 and now am back to open front. Probably not too much risk open. I also don't do the hardcore stuff in my daily driver. The Rubicon is probably the hardest trail I've done in my 5th gen and I've been through a couple times without breaking anything. So I actually feel pretty okay about going most places without a spare, but I still take one mostly because I have it, so it make sense to toss it in. Anything more than that and I'd take the trail rig.
