2021 Trail Editions

Looks like trail editions of the Tundra, 4Runner, and Tacoma will be announced at the Chicago auto show in the morning.
CNet prematurely posted the article, then yanked it.

Wonder what this means for the Pro line. Can’t believe they brought cement back fro 4Runner.

OOooOO, AwwWWW
Black badging, a color-matched cooler AND Yakima cargo!?
I am sure it is worth the extra 5k they'll charge. No mention of a locker or suspension upgrade.

Now just to confuse everyone we have the Off Road, ORP, TRD Pro, Venture Edition, and Trail Edition which should all just be compiled into two variants;
TRD-Pro
& Off Road

No sense in continually adding sub-models without any REAL changes..

No hood scoops on these new models despite the new colors... looks like the brass are running out of ideas and just milking time before the next update

I hope there is more updates pending.

If they make a Trail w/KDSS and Cement I'd be first in line.

It’s cool you can get those colors in a SR5 but yeah if I bought a AG pro I’d probably not be happy. Wonder what color the 2021 pro will be?

Thumbs up

Pretty brutal... I can’t believe this was a staged reveal for 3 very important vehicle segments. Ford is coming out with a new F150 later this year and all of the other competitors are bringing out new redesigns.

I am actually quite annoyed that I have an 8 model year old vehicle that was already in its 3rd model year when I bought it new... and I can only trade it in for the exact same truck today. Infotainment upgrades and lipstick don’t cut it. I would half consider it if they at least upgraded the power train.

At this point I am actually strongly considering a Highlander or perhaps do the unthinkable and go to GM for the new Yukon/Tahoe. The V8 is a pig but the diesel could be an option.

The social media comments on this reveal says it all. Toyota made hay with the 4Runner but too many of these buyers will be lured away by more modern options... sounds like the same goes for the Tundra too.

As a proud cement owner that looked 6 long months for the right vehicle, this really infuriates me.

But I am sure not as much as the Army green folks who just paid a huge dealer markup for theirs just a few months ago.

Welp, there goes a bunch of value in resale.

You 'aint kidding. The entire truck industry is up for a shake up in 2021. Tesla, Bollinger, Rivian, and soon.......the Ford F150 electric. Tons of modern goodies, fantastic specs on road and off, (e.g 4 second 0-60 times), and significantly reduction in cost to own. Mileage being the biggest drawback but quickly receding. Even (gag) the hummer now.

Even purists must give attention to these, and I would hesitate to drop $45-60+ on a new truck/suv given what is coming out in just a year or two.

Even more important for potential 4Runner buyers - Ford is coming out with the new Bronco this year!

I don’t think this affects resale value of those colored PROs.

It would if these colors were now offered with TRD Off Road Models but they come with SR5 models wo miss a lot of off-road features the TRD OR and PROs have.

So is the change just the badging and storage? No word on the suspension - but I guess we assume it’s the sr5 suspension?

That's the other half of the reason i bought now. I don't want any of the fancy mistakes that's to come in the next few years.

Electric off road vehicle? Blasphemy!

Maybe in 10+ years ill take a serous look.
