JBL with Nav question - need a lil help

Hi All... thank you in advance. I have a 2012 Limited w/JBL NAV stereo. Ever since the dealer did the Pass air bag recall fix, it has occasionally displayed a dark screen stating something about no nav or system disk, then comes back to a map and seems fine. This has happened approximately 5 times and I can not replicate it as in bumps, turns etc.
Runner is at the dealer under extended warranty and they said there are no "updates" for that head unit so really nothing they can do.
Anyone have this issue or a solution?
Dont want to have to buy a new head unit one day after my warranty expires etc.
Thanks,
X

A couple things come to mind...

When they pulled apart the dash, could something have been slightly unplugged from the OEM head unit?

Is the micro disk (for nav) completely seated in it's slot? On mine, it's behind the bottom right button looking cover that says SD Disk.

no micro disk

The 2012's there is an actual DVD for Nav.
They checked all the connections and said were fine. I am thinking the head unit is on its way out but just not ready to die till warranty is up.
Thanks,
X

Eeesh... sounds awful. Bad timing, too. Hopefully it goes before the warranty does... But if it doesn't, there are a ton of aftermarket head units with nav that fit, look good and perform well or better for less than OEM.

Good luck.

If you've reported the issue during the warranty period - and have it documented on work orders - then there is a good chance (89.5427%) that Toyota will repair the issue under warranty (or goodwill repair) if the unit dies (or the issue can be replicated) withing a reasonable time period after the warranty expires.

What is "reasonable" depends on many things. If the unit dies while you are still within some portion of the warranty (let's assume that the car is under the 3/36 warranty and you've run out of time, but are under on miles - or the other way around), then your chances increase. If you do servicing at the dealer, then your chances increase. If you own other Toyota/Lexus products, then your chances increase.
