Crawl Control and Terrain Selection how exactly do they work

So I was wondering if anyone knows if the Crawl Control and Terrain functions on the PROs work. Are they specialized mechanical or essentially computer-driven capabilities? I was looking for information on how these options actually function but all I could find was worthless information on how to use them. I am just curious and was wondering if anyone had any actual technical information.

From what I understand the crawl control and terrain select use both mechanical functions ie transmission and brakes in conjunction with electronics to function. I’m new to the 4Runner world and haven’t been able to put mine to the test.... yet.
I’m sure some one more knowledgeable then I will be along shortly to explain exactly how these functions work.

Crawl control pulses the brakes, nothing really fancy about it.

Terrain selection uses preset computer settings to alter how the throttle and brake inputs and affect wheel slip and in some of the more aggressive settings also the ATRAC.

I have used crawl control a few times, I have never used the terrain selection.
