Beach run with stock tires?

Anyone taken their T4R into somewhere like Big Shell with stock duelers? If so, what's been your experience with traction given all the fancy traction controls the 4R has these days?

She will do wonders!

Took my 4Runner down to Galveston a couple weeks ago. I have the basic SR5 package and at the time just some basic all terrains. My 2WD got me extremely fat I will say, I didn’t get stuck the first time although much of the sand was flat. It was right up on the beach though so it was kind of wet, but she performed great. A went back a couple days ago and did end up getting stuck. Both times I have gone my back right tire was pretty bald (I do a lot of burnouts). I think your T4R will get you where you need to be, especially with all the traction and 4wd stuff despite your tires. I would just refrain from super soft sand and hills. That’s where I got stuck the second time was a hill. When in doubt, throttle out. I would by all means though, suggest some simple all terrains. If you do end up getting stuck, grab some wood planks and dig a slight hole under your tires and place the planks there. It isn’t 100% trust worthy but it could save you! Have a fun adventure!

Reduce the air pressure to 15 (+-) pounds in the tires.
You will go most anywhere in the sand.

Not all sand is created equal. Coast of Washington State no problem for stock tires.

I have driven to big shell and little shell, about 25 miles down, with no problem on stock 4Runner tires. I even did the run with my Xterra on stock tires too with no issues. Condition was different each time as well. No air down either.

I dunno have you seen this channel?

YouTube

Dude has loads of beach recovery videos from his business. I've been out on that very same beach and saw a couple people digging themselves out as well. Of course they're not 4runners but I've seen trucks get stuck out there. Maybe just bad drivers?

On stock tires I have no problem at Ocean Shores or Westport. Have not needed or used the rear locker or crawl control. I also look down the road to avoid any problems. I have helped numerous people in sedans and light duty SUV 's. I have yet to assist any year Jeep Wrangler or 4runner.

I have seen some of that Youtubers videos. I have not been to that beach. I do carry Maxtrax which I have never used. I always look down the road for obstacles.

Here's a pic from Beach Cleanup. We clean the Beach in September.

Should be no problem. I took my 4Runner on street tires all over the beach in NC. It had no problem in the super soft sand that all the BroDozers with super aggressive tires were getting stuck in. Air down to 15 PSI and you'll be fine. Easy on the throttle and use 4-High not 4-Low. If you feel yourself getting stuck - STOP - BACKUP - and try again. DO NOT floor it, you will only dig and get stuck.

2013 SR5 on the beach in Corolla, NC. Just air down (I usually go to about 18 psi) and enjoy.

Agree with all the above -- and unless it is the fine, powdery sand I'd try it without airing down. If you start to bog, then reduce pressure.

Packed sand is much more difficult to get stuck in. Try those tires on dunes.

Well, there are no dunes around here. I understand dunes have finer sand...but around these parts it’s just beaches.

I'll also add that on the east coast even walking much less driving in the dunes at most beaches is highly against the law, it's the dunes and the vegetation on them that protects the coasts from erosion from the numerous hurricanes and tropical storms we get each year and as such they're are off limits, even private property that are bordering some beaches usually must have boardwalks over the dunes or a single dedicated walk path to access the beaches, you just can't go walking or driving willy-nilly in the dunes.
