Install Techstream TIS on any computer. Customize your 4R

I recently installed Toyota Techstream TIS software to my computer and made many program modifications to my 4runner such as...

-turned off seat belt warning sound
-all windows roll down when i hold unlock on key fob
-programmed 2 new keys
-turned off DRLs
-doors autolock when I reach 15mph

I have documented my entire experience and wanted to share with everybody. I currently have a video on how to install techstream and how to program new keys on a 5th gen. Check it out here...

all windows control for 4th gen are for limited trim.
most controls you can customize are the lights, locks and keyless entry, also tpms and keys.

i havent seen your video, but are you using the mini vci or the vx diag, i swapped over from the mini vci to the vx diag, works really well with the latest techstream.

5th gens are little bit different than the 4th gen.

4th gen sr5 model and sport models will have some limited program options. the limited model will have more program options.

Ive been wanting to install techstream and take a look but didnt know what some good cables were. Do yall have any suggestions for which ones work well with the latest version of techstream? Do you gain anything with the vxdiag over the mini vci? It looks like the vxdiag may be a specific one but then again my quick search skills may be lacking.

Thanks for posting the video too btw. Once I pick a cable ill give it a try.

i think there is 2 versions of the mini vci cable, one supports the latest version of techstream.

the vxdiag is alot faster for me, but then again its only 70 or so. it will support the latest techstream, also i had an issue with the old mini vci cable when doing the tpms stuff on certain cars. it would crash the program, thats why i gave the vxdiag a try and its flawless.

Thanks for this. Now I finally have a clue what people are talking about.

What else can you do with this on a 2020 4Runner besides make a change so all of the windows go down at the same time while holding the button down longer and the other stuff listed by the OP.?

Is there a good video on using it ?

you can program extra keys and remotes, also rewrite the ecm i think. change vin and some features. door locks and factory buzzer, some lighting like drl, when the lights need to turn off when last door is closed.

I don't think rewriting the ECM is illegal, otherwise the feds would be doing sting operations to catch kids in civics with ebay turbo kits and copies of hondata

and the vin would only be changed in the vehicles computer, which also wouldn't really do anything except maybe mess with the dealer if they tried to run diagnostics on it and it came back as a 98 camry or something

I bought my OBDII TIS cables from this site

They even sent me an email telling me that one of my cables would be delayed because the factory in Wuhan China that made them had shut down. I did not go with a wireless version due to cost and the number of times I expect to use this since I already have an OBDLink MX+ wireless dongle for diagnostics and other real time display stuff.

I received the cable last week though after a 2 or 3 week delay.
