Are you saying this is a hoax?
Because you'll have to inform the Department of Defense.

Everybody needs to be prepared to take care of themselves for a few weeks. That means food, meds and other supplies, so you don't need to go nuts and buy a lifetime supply of TP at the first sign of someone sneezing.
That said, you'll want some water (although the water/electricity/gas etc. won't be affected by the pandemic) as there may be periodic outages caused by other things (storms etc) but once you have your basic supplies, you just need to rotate and buy your normal quantities of everything.
Don't forget supplies for your pets.
You'll also want to keep your car topped off. Even though you might not be driving as much and the gas stations will remain open, you do want to limit your interaction with others. I make it a habit of filling my tank when it reaches half full all the time, so I normally have plenty of gas. Maybe you need to bring supplies to a friend or relative who is shut in.
Wash your hands, don't shake hands, exercise social distancing (3 feet away from others in public), cover your cough and you'll be fine.
Don't forget the ammo.
Bottom line - don't panic but don't take this lightly either. There are plenty of 20/30/40 year olds on ventilators for this disease so it doesn't just affect the older population.
With proper preparation, we can keep from overwhelming the medical system - that's what happened in China and what is happening today in Italy (where they are taking triage to extremes because they can't cope)
You don't want to get this (you have a 90+% chance of survival) but you don't want to get it and pass it on inadvertently to a more vulnerable person.
I'm happy to answer any questions - either here or via PM.

We have a subject matter expert at our disposal, and frankly everyone else's opinion should come in second.

Thanks for this informed post. I'd like to add that the social distancing and quarantine is to keep the hospitals from getting overwhelmed.
Picture a bell curve. With normal interactions, it is a pointy spike shape where the top of the spike is much higher than the capacity of hospitals. With social distancing the curve is wider and flattens out to the point that the peak infection is below hospitals' capacity.
As mentioned above, if hospitals' capacity is exceeded then they start doing triage and some who need a ventilator to live will not have one available. Plus doctors and nurses would be getting bombarded at that point. So staying away from folks for a couple of weeks is really helping out the medical professionals, mostly, while potentially saving a few lives.
Admittedly it is a small chance that any individual will need a ventilator; but as an example no one would want to own a vehicle that had a 3% chance of exploding every time it's started.
For our part we're not going out much, and have some extra canned goods, pasta etc.

COVID-19 in perspective
See how many kids die EVERYDAY from bad water and we don’t do anything about it. See how many Chinese people die EVERYDAY from bad air.
COVID-19 is a fiasco created by the irresponsible media circus. It has wiped out billions of dollars of wealth and countless people have lost their jobs because of them.

OK, tinfoil hat mode off. It does raise an interesting question, if preventing spread of disease and death is so important, why are all those other factors mentioned above seemingly forgotten about? Why is there comparatively little to no desire to slow/stop death from those situations (regular flu, bad water, bad air) as there is from this new virus? Is it simply because fear is a fad - we're only afraid of the latest and greatest diseases and lose interest in last year's maladies?

Well played China. Successfully crashed the world economies with the common cold.
"Did the Chinese government attempt to cover up the embarrassment of its socialized medicine or fabricate a deadly outbreak to panic the world? Has our scientific arrogance erroneously blamed this on an innocuous common cold, possibly endemic in much of the world, or have we been maliciously misled by the Chinese-controlled WHO? Was it to cover the embarrassment or advance the fabrication? Did China orchestrate the media hype, or was it the normal Trump-hate of fake news? Did the Chinese start a fire sale, or were they well positioned by happenstance? "

We now have a curfew in New Jersey. You cannot drive between 8pm and 5am.
The DMV is closed until the end of the month.

I wasn't really worried until Saturday. Couldn't find any meat for dinner. Everything is shut down. Now they are talking about not being allowed to leave your house and Marshall Law taking affect.
I thought I was doing pretty good investing in the down market, then the Feds cut the rates to almost nothing yesterday. I felt sick to my stomach and didn't even want to look at the market today. Sure enough, everyone panicked and the market dumped.
We are set on TP and Bourbon. Now I am afraid we won't have enough food with 2 kids home from school all day, and potentially the wife any myself. I've been stocking Ammo for years while it's cheap. Everyone thought I was crazy. Who's crazy now?

Once you get used to having a clean butthole you will have a problem when you have to take a dump and you don't have a bidet around.

Like many, I don’t necessarily trust that this thing is 100% legitimate. At times it seems like a worldwide experiment. How much control can be exerted on the world population? Threaten them with a disease and they’ll all fall in line. All the conspiracist stuff, I get it and I live there. I constantly am trying to sort it out.
That said, I also try to look at this as if it’s real. If it truly is real, then it’s incumbent upon me to treat it as a serious threat. People really are getting sick and some are dying. In Ohio, about a third of the reported cases are in the hospital. I have a child with Down Syndrome, and when he gets the flu or whatever, it sucks. He might need hospitalization with this too. So I’m doing my best to make sure he doesn’t get it.
Bottom line for me is like the other things we’ve been through in the USA: extend as much love and compassion as I can to the people I interact with every day. Buy their stuff, help them out. I’m not excellent at it, but I try to help out.
If this is all a big hoax and is being intentionally overblown, I’m too small to fight that on my own. So for me, the best and wisest thing is to treat it like it’s real.

So is it all a big hoax then?
President said it was, then backpedaled and now it isn't a hoax. Department of Defense knows it's real: All Army Basic Training has been cancelled until further notice. No new recruits. I would think the gravity of the situation would allow the possibility that maybe the scientists are correct.
