You'd make a terrible zombie.

No, it is a choice. When I was in China, our hosts made it a point of offering us the most disgusting (to us) stuff like sea slugs. They also put away an amazing amount of alcohol.

My kids think it's acceptable to bring friends over because they show no signs of being sick

Why is this so difficult for everyone to comprehend?

Before this guy worked for me he went to China and ate something that was not cooked well enough. He got some kind of a parasite that took him over a year to get rid of and he lost about 100 pounds. He thinks it was from eating a pigeon.

A good friend good mine is Chinese and eats all kinds of horrifying shit he buys in Chinatown.

Yeah, a lady I used to work with is from China. She made a 1-month trip back home, and returned with a ton of pics of those open-air markets. Virtually everything is available on a stick. She wouldn't touch any of it.

People eat all sorts of stuff. In America people eat gator, turtles, rattle snake, possums etc the difference is cooking. I have had goat, squirrel, gator and rattle snake but it was cooked thoroughly. I grew up eating rabbit and lamb which by some would be considered gross. In South east Asia eating raw or lightly cooked meat is a norm which doesn't kill all the germs.

I mean, I can understand if they're accustomed to that - you develop affinities for things. What I can't understand is someone preferring a slug or centipede or some other such critter over, say, chicken or fish or beef. I can't imagine WANTING to eat insects. That's why I'm assuming that some of it is money-related, given the horrible 'wages' many of them are subjected to. My Chinese co-worker that I mentioned elsewhere grew up in China with that stuff and is repulsed by it. Perhaps that's from living here in the States for many years.

Perhaps because none of us has ever been in circumstances like these. They have no reference point. Heck, I don't either.

Yes, it is a huge problem that most can't comprehend. 25% of "carriers" will never show symptoms and you can go from well to dead in no time.

I spoke with a colleague who got off a ventilator a few days ago. Three weeks ago she woke with what she thought was a cold. By that afternoon, she was starting a cough. By evening, she was having a cough she couldn't control and went to the ER. Oxygen helped and she was admitted and tested. The next morning she appeared a bit better but still felt lousy. By early afternoon, she was intubated on a ventilator. She stayed that way for almost two weeks. She's back home now but says the pain was awful and she never got so sick, so quickly. She is in her early 40's and a marathoner, so not in a high risk category.

The "average" patient in ICU is on a ventilator for three or four days - the COVID-19 patient is on a ventilator for at least double that time.

That's good news that she is well now. I do have to ask if you know? Now that she has recovered does it give her some sort of resistance to another covid infection or is she still susceptible to it? In other words, Does one build immunity to the virus after being infected and surviving?

I've seen news articles like this. People who recovered do seem to have antibodies. Can you catch the coronavirus twice? You'''ll probably be immune — for some time, at least
