Tire Chunking
2013 Trail, Toytec Lift, 265/70/r17 Nitto Ridge Grappler tires, e-rated aired up to 50psi.
Been doing only city driving lately and noticed this chunk missing from the rear driver's side tire today. Internet search says it may be old rubber or hot temps but stamp on tire says it was made early 2018, and it's winter.
Tires aired up too much?
This common with these tires?
Anyone care to speculate?

If it is only that one spot then it is most likely some external damage (rock, curb). If it is in multiple spots then it is an alignment issue.

Yes, probably due to a curb or parking lot concrete bumper. The bumpers with sharp edges, especially those with a little bit of rebar protruding, cause a lot of tire damage. Mostly on inside edges of tires if you ride up on it then slip off.

Interesting, I know that just a couple days ago I backed into one of those concrete bumpers at a shopping mall but it was with my back right tire - that one's fine. I'll keep an eye out for any further damage; Hopefully it's just an anomalous event.

I see you're from Vegas, do you ever drive offroad or in the desert?
If so any rock can do that kind of damage.

Aired down to about 38 and went down some nice sharp Rocky Roads. No tires were harmed in the trekking of that trail. Perhaps it's just a random curb or obstacle in the road that hurt the tire - Hope so....

I'll keep those in mind when I come due for tires again. I purchased the truck with these outfitted already. They wouldn't be my first choice by a long shot, but they're pretty badass tires.
I prefer more along the lines of the Terra Grappler, Falken Wildpeaks, General Grabbers, KO2s, etc.... these are just overkill for my purpose.
