Hey girls and guys! I wanna ask all of you for opinion on my 'a problem'. I have 1991 (2.gen) t4r with 2L-T diesel engine. It have 238k km (147k mil) on odo if that can be trusted. Overall truck is fine for its age but engine need some serious work. It is oil hungry most likely due to bad valve stem seals, never checked compression but piston rings most likely will be worn out as well. Other then then engine starts fine (almost immediately), idle fine, runs fine. Turbocharger is on its way out. Big radial play, sometimes turbine even 'grind' on turbo body itself and due to this state, it most likely leak oil as well. It will be rebuild in next month or so. Biggest problem is that truck as it is can't pass the emission test. Last time I did passed but only because I have friend that knows friend that have the other friend... Engine have remanufactured injectors, resealed and adjusted injection pump. No problems with cooling and no cracked head
Besides engine, maybe transmission could use some work in future since it's little bit noisy (heard when in neutral and idle, noise stops when you depress a clutch). Drivetrain seem to be okay, all bearings has been changed, rear axle resealed (diff. oil leaking), diff. oil changed. It is LSD diff. but I have no idea if that still works
Status of Tcase is unknown since I have no idea what and how to check. Steering rack/gearbox is leaking that needs to be addressed if I wanna keep the truck, steering dampener is just two pipes atm., need to be replaced too.
Body is fine minus few dents here and there and some minor, easy to fix, rust. Frame has usual surface rust but other than that, completely healthy. Other things on the truck, 95% do work.
It is my daily driver, doing 75% on road, 25% offroad.
Question is, what to do now. A: Keep it and invest money to rebuild and fix it to 100%. B: Give it away and buy different vehicle. To be honest I have no money to buy decent used vehicle and with price tag I can allow atm. it will be in similar condition I think. And I am aware that rebuild is expensive too. Trying to decide which expensive way to chose. I would like to hear your opinions and suggestions
