Who has driven to the most states in their 4Runner?

I'm curious to see who has the record on the forum. I'm guessing it's unlikely that anyone is up to 50 but I know there are some widely traveled 4Runners in the group. I'm at the embarrassingly low number of 3 but I hope to greatly expand that when I retire in the next couple of years so post them up whether you are at 1 or 50!

Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, California, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas. So, 10. Also rented a 4Runner in Oregon last year, but that probably doesn't count.

In my '17 I have been to all of them except the New England states and Hawaii. That includes 2 trips to Alaska!

But to be fair, some of those states I was just passing through.

My '19 is just a baby still... only California, Nevada, and Oregon...

The '17 (the collage was made for a trip report, not for this thread, LOL!)

Just 4 - Washington, Oregon, Cali (home), Nevada. I have driven (rented cars) is an bunch others, but that wouldn't count.

To be fair, Cali should count as two states. Of if you go by east coast states size it would be at least 9.

Very cool! It looks your '19 has some catching up to do.

I had a trip to Florida planned this spring and that would have added 3 more states but that was no go due to the virus. Just Virginia, Maryland and NC so far.

Not too many here either... our '14 (currently at 49,000 miles) has taken us all over Texas, and to Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri. 7 states total.

I don't mind your asking at all.

It was... long. But fun. Actually, we originally thought that Canada was just a land mass to have to get through but by the time we got to Alaska we actually realized that it is pretty awesome in its own right. Actually, it may be better than Alaska. Yukon is incredible. Well worth driving up there IMO.

I would say that you have to have a solid co-driver. If you are by yourself, that would be a long slog. There's no cell service... no radio stations... XM is spotty... you need a good passenger to spend the time with and share the driving duties.

Here's both my trips if you want to peruse them (warning: I am a vulgar MF'er). Trip 1 was not as good but by trip 2 we had pulled our shit together.

August 2019 Alaska trip - MeefZah

This is great info - thanks! I'll definitely look at these when I get home later. I've always wanted to go to Alaska. I live in Ohio, so it would definitely be a long trip. However, I enjoy driving more than most people I know, so that helps a little. We've made several trips to the Rockies over the years, and there's never too much scenery to look at, IMO. Thanks again!

Did a cross country trip back in 2006 in my '05...from Santa Clara, CA to Hixson, TN and back (via the Gateway to the West)

States I crossed...

CA, AZ, NM, OK, TX, AR, TN, KY, IN, IL, MO, NE, SD, WY, UT and NV.

Also been to AL, GA, and NC

...in the 4runner.

so, 19 states.

I am from Ohio originally. Lived most of my life in Mt Gilead (Morrow Co), then the last 5 years before we moved to Ca in Uhrichsville (Tusc Co).

Anyway... if you go from Ohio zip through Alberta and BC on Icefields Parkway... you won't regret it!

I’m a midwesterner, so no western states on my list (20) in no particular order:

IL, IN, WI, MI, OH, KY, TN, AL, FL, GA, MO, OK, KS, NE, IA, SD, ND, MN, NC, SC.

(And Ontario, Canada)

Great stuff. I just browsed the first page of both of them and will dig into them more when I get a chance. Lots of good practical advice for anyone planning a trip like this and I love all the photos.
