I thought everyone would be hate'n on the Bronco because it doesn't have a SOLID FRONT AXLE and no one would buy it without a SOLID FRONT AXLE.

IFS sucks! Can't be cool and roll up a snow bank and flex your IFS at the mall like you can with a Jeep.

Interesting, but a lot of fuss for something nobody has driven nor will drive for >12 months. But a serious shot across the bow to Toyota. I guess the Sport is targeted to the Rav4/Outback buyers, which makes sense. A serious attempt by Ford, let's check back in 12 or so months to see if they deliver.

Not really impressive, but looks butch and will spawn a whole subculture of frowny faced Broncs with crap lifts.
Ford COULD have based this on the Raptor or at least sprung for a V8.

"If they prove reliable" Says it all....Ya, lots to like but it is a Ford. First deliveries in the middle of next year. The price gutting that will happen.

seeing the convertables, doors off, big tires, locking diffs, its screaming at Jeep for sure...especially as an 'Merikan car maker. and interior add-ons, and seeing they put IFS on it also, to make it smoother to compete with the T4Rs
Is it a direct competitor to the T4Rs, i think so...simply in the category of True Off Road vehicle from the factory.
Why they made the 'Sport' is beyond me. The same way Jeep makes those off shoots that are complete pieces of crap (Liberty, Patriot).
my reservations...the 'Eco Boost' engines. a simple V6-V8 would suffice.
I think Toyota needs to do something in response...V8 the TRD Pros maybe (youve got a 4.6 available to use), a nice remodel even if the under pinnings remain close to the same...
i dont know...if i were that smart, i'd start a car company

This. I might not like Ford or completely trust their reliability but I'll give them credit for listening to their fans and delivering a product with options that people wanted. Obviously besides a V8 option and a solid front axle I don't know that there's anything else that Ford didn't deliver on options wise. It's almost like they listened to what their forum users wanted. Toyota, well, lets give them Lunar Rock...
Really hope Toyota and Mike Sweers listens to customers and the competition but that guy seems to be more interested in aerodynamic fins on the side mirrors.

Maybe from Jeep and old school Bronco fans. From a 4Runner we really don't have a base to stand up on since ours comes with IFS and has come with IFS since forever.

After seeing a few vids ...i like it a little more...not enough to abandon my Runner for one, but i do like the attempt. IFS is fine, locking diffs and add ons to make it more personal is great. Will the electronic stuff hold up is a key question...along with the Eco-boost stuff around all the dirt and mud these things are set up to handle.
but then i heard what i had figured was true...the 'Sport' is an Escape with better clothes on. that makes me sad. there isnt anything wrong with an Escape, my daughter had one for a while and it was fine...but she's 18...please dont pee on me and say its raining. There is very little you can do to that vehicle, especially giving it an engine that has less power than my Kawasaki GTR, and then tell me its off road worthy.
but as Tom said on Driven, Ford will probably sell a boat load of them.
so Ford has basically decided to split their market/fans...:
either you want on road (Explorer, Escape) or you want off road (Bronco, Bronco-lite).

Some cool features and I'd personally wait for the bigger V6. I like the things they thought of like the mirrors. That would be nice for those who go doorless. I don't. I wheel but I keep the doors and hardtop on. It can't replace my Rubicon with the IFS. My 4R does not even come close to what the Rubi can do, though it is a nicer drive on pavement. I have actually driven and ridden in practically all of them and since I used mine for mostly trails, the IFS makes no sense to me. It makes a ton of sense for a smoother drive and for fast running. Too bad but it saves me some money at least.
For most people, it will do well so I hope it sells well but if they were mainly targeting the Wrangler buyer, they will get some but not the ones who wheel.
I do want to see some articulation comparison videos though. That will tell us if this IFS is better than the rest and how it compares to a solid axle..

I like what Ford has done but just like the Wrangler, the Bronco is not a direct competitor with the 4Runner. The last vehicle to do so was the Nissan Xterra. As others have pointed out, it is still a Ford product and bells and whistles sell headlines but reliability keeps a wallet healthy.

So long 4runner. NO WAY will Toyota be able to beat the new Bronco. Toyota engineering has been going anti-masculine and pro boring for years. I never thought I would be buying a Ford over a Toyota, but this thing is a home run.

Of course it is a direct competitor. What does competitor even mean then? It is a true 4X4 that holds 5 humans and has some ground clearance. How is that not a competitor? Why does it even matter? It is not a sports team. People will go looking for a SUV that has offroad capabilities and will look at Jeep, 4R, and Ford most likely. I dont think you have even seen the Bronco. It comes in 2 variants, One family versoin and one that blows Jeep, Land Rover and Toyota out of the water.
