Question Loading the roof rack?

How do you get a sheet of plywood up there with just one person?

Let's say I wanted a sheet of plywood up there. I was thinking to lay it on the back of truck then slide it up, but the 5th gen (and most 4th gens) with the big honking spoiler.

I haven't to see a rack that covers the side enough to not scratch the crap out of it.

There are rollers, but they wouldn't extend enough in the back to cover the spoiler and even on the side of a 49" wide rack it would be pretty tight.

Can you stand to the side of your vehicle and load it crosswise and then swivel it 90 degrees?

I haven't tried that. The edge of the roof would be in the way. Even the aftermarket racks a about 2" wider than OEM but not enough to clear roof line.

Secure a blanket to the roof rack and drape it down over the vehicle to protect it. Slide the plywood up onto the rack using the method @nvbirdman suggests.

I too am curious about this. I always end up renting a truck from Home Depot because the rack is too inconvenient for anything other than a tent or a cargo box.

Exactly correct. I have done the same thing without scratching the paint. Just make darn sure your plywood is tied down EXTREMELY well.

Has anybody used this Harbor freight trailer? It's cheaper than a Prinsu rack.

1195 lb. Capacity 48 in. x 96 in. Heavy Duty Folding Trailer

My neighbor had one - seemed to work just fine.
Lots of assembly though.

Read the 1,299 reviews and see if you can live it.
