Mixing tires on 4WD Toyota 4Runner

I have 2005 Toyota 4Runner V8 4WD w/c i bought brand new in 2005.

About 90 percent of the time i drive same size tires but different brands and different thread depths. In all 15 years i only have one blowout which was 8 years ago when driving to Vegas from LA.

I never encountered any steering or braking problems.

Am i just lucky? Just curious.

The SUV still drives great no problems at all.

I believe it has more to do with the actual diameter of the tire, which can effect the turn ratio the Torsen differential will see.

There is some allowance (2-3% IIRC), but too much and you can run into issue.
