I had my 4runner regeared to 4.56 gears and added an arb locker up front about 1.5 years ago. I didn't anticipate wanting to run larger than 33" tires at the time but, I've been bitten by the bug to run 35's. I've been talking to a place that works primarily on Toyotas and they recommended doing a cab mount relocation and running 4.88 gears with the 35's. My question is, is it really worth it to upgrade to the 4.88s? They've quoted me $3,150 for the nitro gear set and the labor to install. I've played around with the numbers on
Gear Ratio Calculator and I see that it would move me to a 44.15 underdrive (crawl) ratio from 41.25. Is that really going to be a major difference out on the trail? Love to hear some opinions!
