New Bronco on the Rubicon

I don't think I've Toyota test on the Rubicon. The only one that I know of is Jeep.

2021 Ford Bronco Attempts to Traverse the Rubicon Trail on Video

Just shows they are serious about competing with Jeep.

I'm not sure why, but I didn't think beadlocks were DOT legal. Has that changed?

In 2009, Toyota took a pretty much stock (had sliders and different tires) 5th gen through the Rubicon and finished it.

Rubicon Fails to Rattle 4Runner | Toyota DriverSeat

We can do it too!

IIRC early on a Toyota factory driver took an FJCruiser through the Rubicon also.

They did, it was in the FJ magazine. They had a rock stacking team with them and I think the truck was so armored it sat 1" low on the stock suspension.

Trail Teams wasn't just a badge, Toyota actually had a team of people who would take FJCs on trails and help organize trail runs back when they at least pretended to care about the 4x4 community.

I actually think I'd sell my 2011 Limited for a new Bronco. LOL

I think a lot of people will abandon Toyota for a Bronco.

Toyota does not care about 4Runner or Tacoma owners and the 4x4 community at all. They just sell many minivans (4Runner) and pickup trucks for midgets.

Ford has a rim for the Bronco III that you can mount beadlocks to. They sell the lock rings separate for a hefty fee "offroad only".

Not me. Bronco doesn't interest me at all from a buying standpoint. I applaud Ford for doing it, but it's not for everyone.

I get it, but the same can be said about the 4Runner. And i believe a lot of people are bored with it.

Who is bored? Potential customers or owners?

Sales are still strong for an old geezer. What does that tell you?

Loyalty is still excellent. People buy 4runners over and over again. Just look at this thread that was created last night: Miss my 4R, buying another one.

The aftermarket support for 4runner is pretty good...maybe not on same level as Jeep, but still pretty far ahead of most other SUVs. You can find sliders, suspension kits, armor, and other parts from many vendors.

You know where the Bronco will hit the hardest? Jeep owners! Many Jeep owners will flock over to the Bronco. 4runner owners? Sure, there will be few that want to test the water...but i don't see any major shift.

Remember, the extremely capable (and highly aftermarket supported) Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has been around for almost 2 decades...it has NOT hurt 4runner sales all that much, if at all. What makes you think Bronco is any better? Is the Bronco any more reliable/durable than Jeep? I doubt it. Both just suck in that arena. Is the Bronco cheap to own? Not really...in fact, i think that MSRP is higher than Jeep and Toyota offerings. What has Ford brought to the table that we have not seen before?

Or take Chevy ZR2 Bison. Amazing specs. Enthusiasts drool over it. But has it really hurt Toyota Tacoma sales? Has it hurt Tacoma's resale value? Has it hurt Toyota loyalty among its customers? Has it hurt Tacoma's aftermarket support that is probably 2nd to Jeep??
