PSA New Lug Nuts for Method Race Wheels

So this is the first time I ever bought new wheels. I recently order a set of 701 Method Race Wheels and when I took them in to get mounted I got a call saying the factory lug nuts would not fit these new wheels. They could not source lugs faster than I could so I ended up ordering a full set of lugs directly from Method to ensure they fit.

When I was researching these wheels I never saw/read/heard of the need for new lugs. This was a slight frustration but simple enough fix. So word to the wise, if you buy aftermarket wheels you may want to look deeper to check if you need new lug nuts.

Yes, I would bet the majority of non-OEM wheels for the 4Runner will take different lug nuts, and likely also a different size socket. OEM lug nuts on my 4Runner are 21mm and my aftermarket wheels take a 19mm nut.

Pick up some thin walled protector sockets and keep them in your 4Runner - you never know when someone else isn't as prepared.

I like the long reach ones so I don't have to fiddle with extensions when using a breaker bar.

Schwaben long-reach protecta socket kit/

Yeah, Amazon is about $6.00 more expensive for that kit than many other online sites.

YMMV

I would also add that if your aftermarket wheels use a different lug nut (different shape or length or width) and you still carry the OEM spare, you better also carry a set of OEM lug nuts so you can actually use that spare.

In other words, make sure the lug nuts, lug nut socket, jack, and all accessories work for all of the combinations you may encounter.

Just sayin'
