undercarriage paint

Posting in General Discussions since it relevant to any old truck..

So: planning to do some painting of undercarriage .
Did anyone use that product:
CRC Black Rubberized Undercoating, 20 oz. Container Size - 13P448'|'05347 - Grainger
?

Any suggestions?
Any good alternatives?
Thanks.

Rubberized undercoatings are great for trapping moisture, causing more rust and rot. Something like an Eastwood Chassis Black or POR 15 would be a better choice.

What about just sandblasting and epoxy paint?

Sandblasting will drive sand into every movable joint... and into every invisible nook and cranny.

How old is your truck ? Lotsa rust ?

I've used rubberized coatings, truck bed coatings, undercarriage paint, etc on lots of trucks.
If it goes on to un-rusted steel, its pretty good.
Put it on over rust and you've got further problems.

I think the rubberized is perfect, it prevents rust, which is pretty amazing, I have used it a couple of times and the result is always the same.

My 4th Gen Runner's undercarriage had so much rust I had to get rid of it. Toyota sent me pics of the frame with holes literally though and through. And it ran like a top when I traded it in. I loved that truck, even more than my current 5th Gen. Don't want that to happen to my current Runner. Is Ziebart any good? I'm not one to work on my own vehicle. Thanks.

POR-15 or fluid film seem to be the common go to’s assuming the goal is rust prevention

How often do you have to reapply Fluid Film to the frame once its been done?

Also do you have to avoid undercarriage sprays in car washes if you have fluid film, I assume it would wash it off?

Don't have experience with actual paint/permanent coatings, but I douse the underside of mine about twice per year with fluid film. It's great; repels water, seems to make rust bubble up a little, and doesn't collect all too much dust/dirt.
