$8 is here

Anyone who steadfastly believes that printing money and limiting oil and gas exploration permits on public lands will not immediately impact fuel and other consumer prices cannot be taught such on a public chat forum such as this. Save your breath.

This is a picture of a gas station I took in Eastern California last week. It was $124/barrel today. I read an industry report today that predicted $150/barrel in a month. The economy will collapse. Make no mistake.

LOL. What's yours is mine and whats mine is mine. Kids...

Will I keep my 4Runner? Yep. I bought it KNOWING this was going to happen. Didn't realize it would be gas, but Biden et al have no idea how to fiscally manage a country. I predicted this in writing fall of last year.

As for why I would keep it? Easy. I work from home and live in a downtown where I have most everything I need within 1/4 mile from my home.

IF that happens, then yeah, i will buy a cheaper transportation vehicle and my LC becomes a weekend car only. In fact, right now, i drive 100 miles everyday...and mostly i use my minivan for that.

Who cares about the gas prices. Your 4runner will maintain it's value in the long run. Definitely had to cut back on foresting all the time 🦉🦊

F_ck the government and anything associated. All I need is my tiny house on well water and solar power. Put the property in my momma's name. Nice set up boss!

Choices

We all have to make choices. For me, the 4 Runner is important. I burn wood, can't pull a trailer or skid trees with our CRV! I grew up boating and waterskiing and the 4Runner pulls almost 5K when I need it to and is a great vehicle for everyday use. Yesterday we got 10" of snow, I had a lot to do and we drove safely (and in great comfort) - what price do you put on safely navigating nasty/dangerous weather? When it's time to throw the ladder on the rack, pack it full of tools and help someone out - it's ideal. How many folks have I pulled out of ditches? Help people move large items they can't fit in their cars Hook up the trailer, move equipment, appliances, etc., etc., etc.

But we're lucky and fortunate and many aren't. My wife travels 50 miles a day to work and the CRV is a great choice. We hope to move to a hybrid CRV or RAV4 when we can.

Just so you don't think I'm ignoring energy use. We bought an old house - insulated it the max - cut our oil use by 2/3. Upgraded our 1984 wood stove to a new catalytic and cut our wood use by 1/4 and our particulate down to the least emitted by any wood stove. Changed our electric appliances and saved another 1/3 of our electricity use.

Back to the 4Runner - dependable (understatement), it's a truck underneath and outfitted with a chassis for lots of flexible uses that make it a perfect choice for what we need. And they are cool as hell!

Well, my situation is a bit different I guess...we both now work from home and don't drive much. We have parks and 40 miles on MTB trails right out the door. So it does not see many miles except in the summer when we go to the mountains every Fri and back on Sun (80 miles each way). We are getting a EV next, and that will be the primary vehicle. There is a chance I would sell it but not yet and not based on gas prices. For years, we have been reducing our driving anyway by design, so we are no longer as affected by gas prices.

Meh.

Oil has plunged from the $130.50 bbl March 6 high to just roughly $100 bbl today. Markets do things. People blame people. The world keeps spinning.

Yeah, that is true. It will go to $80 and then maybe $150 and then back down to $60 eventually. Volatility with Russia and other OPEC countries will always make it swing painfully. That is unavoidable. I did get a call from my friend the other day asking "if you guys are okay" and then I realized she was messing with me, since she just bought a Model Y or whatever that smaller SUV is. She finally got me for teasing her all these years.
