I would be a bit annoyed if gas was that expensive! Luckily, i haven't had the need to fill up my v8 4runner in 3 months because I live 3 blocks from both my jobs and most of the trails in Colorado are closed for the season. It'll be another couple months to fill up.

I just want to have fun with my 4runner for the next 10-20 years or so without having to worry about rising gas prices.

you purchased the wrong vehicle if you were after gas mileage.

If all else fails, I'll keep the 4R for fun times and trips and drive this bad boy all other times. 3 cylindars of fury, 5 speeds of fun and 48mpg

My 4R is paid off, so let's see... I can spend $24,000 on gas for the next 6 years (past yearly mileage x $8/gal @ 18mpg avg), or roughly $40k PLUS fuel (gas or electric). Also, if gas were to hit $8 / gal, the 4R would be worth about $5 on trade in. Hmmm... think I'll keep the 4R and enjoy the open roads with no traffic!

My 4Runner is paid off, paying for a new vehicle payment easily cancels out the fuel economy savings.

Yes because my only other vehicle at the moment is a Honda Odyssey lol

Nope, I'll keep the F250 (diesel) due to it's entertainment and workhorse abilities. Replace the 4Runner with an EV for local errand use. I have no commute since my retirement.

There are over supply of the crude vs demand (due to pandemic) driving our gasoline pricing lower than before--but most of us know there is floor threshold price of $/gal at the pump. For North America - we have the Gulf, Alaska, Canada, and many fracking/shale operations. I saw crude hitting >$50/barrel for the first time last week in a year or so due to mainly OPEC+ folks decide to withold additional supply. Interestingly enough we had a brief week when US no longer imported oil from abroad (middle east). With new drilling techs, we have drilled deeper and further and finding mega deposits around S America, S Africa, Asia etc and this will continue. WHat is intersting is that lowered demand forces the oil producers invest more heavily and pump more vol to recoupe their investment. This is one factor that balances pricing from the supplier perspective. From our consumer perspective taxes make up 10-50% of the pump pricing and this will get worse esp if state gov't continues to provide subsidies to adopt EVs. In some senese we are actually paying for the subsidy on EV sales. Unfortunately as much as I love my 4runner, in 10 year time or maybe even earlier, Metal Lithium batteries will basically obsolete gasoline vehicles. Saw significant excitement from both Toyota, Panasonic, QuantumScape etc that this tech is about 2-3 years away and knowing much of the know how i do believe it is feasible to achieve what is promised ie 10-15 min charge for 400+ miles range w/ life capacity to support 400K miles. Exciting yet hate to see my 4runner go. So it is not necessarily $8/gal but how competing tech will attract migration to EVs eventually. who knows, my 2020 4runner will be a collectable someday or future generation will think how crazy we are to drive gasoline cars...For now, i will enjoy my 4runner as much as i can. Cheers.

One thing that is different for me.
I drive 20 miles to work on Wednesdays, then 20 miles back home on Mondays. It sits at work while I drive 2,700 miles in an 18-wheeler that everyone that eats food pays for the fuel.

i have a 2003 F150 that has been paid off for over a decade and a half, it cant be getting me any better than 12mpg...and i aint gettin rid of that.

plus, i own two motorcycles, when its warmer, and gas prices get tighter, those things get 40+mpg...and the trucks get parked

I had a 93 Geo Metro....i used to drive it upstate to deer hunt probly 25 times a year......coffin on wheels!

I would keep my 4runner....however....if gas gets that high...well have a hell of a lot more to worry about since crude is used in many many things that are produced!!!

My '08 V8 4WD mileage is:

- 21 mpg at 55 mph
- 19.5 mpg at 65
- 18 mpg at 75

All which beat my '06 F-150 V8 4WD all to hell.

So, yep, I would.
The 4R's my budget rig.

I get around 19mpg combined. Summer time I've gone as high as 21mpg.

If gas hits $8/gal I'll be paying somewhere between $70 - $100 a week/$300 - $400 a month. Most new car payments would be cheaper. But I'm fine with a $500 1990 Accord/Civic/Corolla/Celica/econobox. I only require two things from a car. 1) cupholder. 2) reliability. I could throw in overall condition but that's largely dependent on price
