5th gen trail 4runner oil change *strange noise* question

1st oil change on 5th gen 4runner trail.

ive worked with the "oil filter housing" system on other toyotas, this was a first with the 4runner.

Background: used Mobil 1 oil and Mobile 1 oil filter.

question:

has anyone ever heard a "squishing sound" during the final tightening turn when reinstalling the oil filter housing

...sounded like the oil filter housing gasket making the squishing sound during retightening.

this was during the final tightening turn when the metal tab was approaching the "metal arrow" mark where the tab should line up.

definitely did not sound like the oil filter housing crack.. more like the oil filter housing large gasket being "squished"

i am probably overthinking it and this is probably common / expected..but figured i may not be the only one whom may have this question/ heard this sound.

Did you oil the big O-ring well like you are supposed to?

yes sir..

o ring was properly seated and lubed with clean oil.

again the sound was similiar to sounding like the o ring being tightly seated.

maybe related to mobil 1 oring being slightly larger than factory oring?

im in the garage and just checked for leaks and no leaks..about to install the skid plate with new a4 aka 316 stainless steel fasteners ...

have another thread recently posted about this skid plate mess / stripped bolts etc...

Keep checking for leaks at the oil filter over a few days, if no leaks then you should be fine.

thanks .. i checked today while installing the skid plate

checked the entire surface area of the oil filter housing and there was no cracks to the filter housing with mirror and flashlight.

again the filter housing was not fully seated when i heard this noise (was about 1/2 turn from being fully seated).

figuring the mobile 1 oil filter housing gasket may simply be slightly larger that the OEM and/ or the gasket material felt a little more grippy that then smooth OEM gasket.. which may have resulted in the noise, during final tightening turn. (filter housing rubbing against the grippy mobile 1 gasket makes a little noise during final tightening turn process).

think it was simply the gasket getting seated during the final turn..sounded like rubber squishing...

ill update my other post later today (with pics and ss hardware dimensions/ specs) about fixing the stripped skid plate bolts mess and process to fully seat the skid plate if your skid plate holes do not fully align correctly.. figured out process to install the bolts in specific order while "encouraging" the skid plate to align with the insert holes.

very pleased with the ss steel hardware upgrade for the skid plate
