Adding a "4wd" emblem on my 4R, to warn tow truck drivers?
I am a cautious driver. I don't ever plan on parking illegally. However, there are predatory towing companies that will find any excuse to tow your vehicle to make a quick buck.
I have a Limited 4Runner 4wd. Full time 4wd. There is NO emblem/logo anywhere on the exterior that will mention the vehicle is 4wd (much less FULL TIME 4wd). Even in the interior of the 4runner there is little indication for a 4wd (except for the h4l,l4l, h4f) knob that is hidden in the corner of the center console.
A tow truck driver, in a hurry, could very easily mistaken my 4Runner for a 2wd and use the typical sling method and ruin the drive system as it drives off...
Am I paranoid? Will the 4Runner full time 4wd system be damaged if they only tow from 2 wheels (front or rear)?
I am thinking of adding a "4wd" emblem to the rear trunk gate, not to show off, but to warn tow truck drivers if my vehicle ever needs to be towed.
The predatory towing company won’t care if you have a 4WD logo. They’ll tow your 4Runner sideways if they have to.
Years ago, I knew someone who had all 4 wheels stolen from his car in a parallel parking space. The legit (!) towing company towed his car sideways on the brake rotors to get his car out of the parking space.
Most legit towing companies these days have flatbed tow trucks, at least where I live.

Thanks for the help ads2539. Been thinking about this for a few months now, but confused.
Thanks for the clarification.
