The other option is to buy Lexus LX570...they are usually significantly cheaper than LC on the USED car market. Of course, you have to like the LX front end.

Could you replace the fenders and front fascia with that of an LC? People replace HD Suburban front fenders and front end with that of an HD truck since they are both based on the same chassis.

I have not seen anyone done that. I think that the underlying structure is probably different.

I'm in my early 30's so it looks like by the time I'm ready to move on from my 4Runner, 2021 LC will be a cheap $20K in 15 years hahaha. I've always been a fan of the LC but I guess I'll never have the opportunity to buy one new.

Being how uber reliable and durable they are, i doubt that you will miss much buying used...except maybe the new car smell. On LC forum, i see people buying 100-200k miles LC without batting an eye! I am a new car kind of guy...so, it is shocking to see people buying high-mileage LCs. The only issue for LC is finding one that is not excessive rusted (as with any used vehicle).

Good point! I'm looking forward to owning one day! I like the LX but have always been more of a fan of the understated Toyota look.

I saw one of these yesterday on the road. The one I saw definitely had the "look' of an old HJ45 "Troopy" Land Cruiser or an old Land Rover Defender.

Those are definitely cool. $35K for an NV2500, $12K for the 4WD conversion and then you have a blank canvas to do whatever. Not nearly as off-road capable as an LC, but good enough for most people.

I'm really intrigued by Ford's new lineup of the transit van. A full size high roof with extended 2500 class chassis, comes in 4x4, and comes with the 3.5 ecoboost with the 10 speed automatic for $52k? And they have some pretty fawkin awesome options - like optional dual alternators! Hell yeah. Dual AGM batteries - stock. A full programable switch panel for accessories! Independent rear AC/Heat units. The list of options is really long. And full of really great stuff. Stuff we can only dream of Toyota ever offering us in an SUV or truck.
Not to mention that it has a 10k lb GVWR and IIRC something like 10k lb tow rating. If ford put a bare bones SUV body on that same spec sheet - they'd never be able to build them fast enough.
How does this relate to the death of the land cruiser in the USA - you could buy the Transit with the ecoboost and awd, buy a 2 door Bronco with 35's and dual lockers, and set it up to tow it behind the Transit - all for less than a new Land Cruiser. And that is why the land cruiser is dead.

Let’s see how all those vehicles last? Days stuck in service bay waiting for parts....
For first six months of my brother’s Ford Raptor ownership, it spent more time at dealership than in his garage.
Good luck with that plan Jetboy.
I will keep trucking along in my old reliable Cruiser....

I am considering buying one of these new V8 Turbo Diesels for my place in Costa Rica. $60K as the taxes are high, but such a great, long-lasting truck.

Wish we had the opportunity to buy those in the states, but apparantly if US citizenry own them then the planet will die from the exhaust, and the driver is unsafe and will die from something or other...

Not sure if true, but i have read on other forums that these ride like sh!t...tractor like ride quality...true to form i guess. They really are good for farmers etc...but daily use, they are punishing.
To be honest, if above is true, then i rather get a Tacoma TRD Pro or simply a Tundra.

I've driven one for ~1500 miles, of that only maybe 100 miles were hard surface roads. In the dirt - it rides a lot like an 80 series on high load springs. It's rough. It rattles and shakes the hell out of everything inside at speed on washboard. They're very similar in design, weight, etc. The older leaf spring versions were probably more like any other leaf spring solid axle vehicle.
The things you forget until you drive one is the things like bump steer. It's not horrible. But it's not as nice as what you're used to with an IFS ride.
