2021 SR5 - how disable GPS and map screen?

Hi comrades - newbie member here. Just purchased a '21 SR5-Premium, but bummed that I had to auction my '06 due to a rotted frame member.

I'm proudly old-fashioned when it comes to most things in life. Less is more. That also goes for cell phones, and the electronics on my new rig.

-- At my request, Toyota has disabled all of the "connected services" that come with the truck. (When I'm driving, I want to be disconnected; AM and FM radio are all I want, although it's too bad a CD player isn't standard anymore.)

-- I figured out how to turn off both screens on the dashboard. Visual silence ... what a relief.

-- A question for you: how can I turn off (disable) the GPS function, and also turn off the "map" screen? I don't need or want either of these in the truck.

Any ideas? Many thanks!

I'm confused but you turned off both screen but still need the GPS turned off?

Isn't it off when the screen is off?

You can push the radio to just go to the radio. If you push home it shows radio and GPS or mine does anyways.

In settings you can set what shows on the home screen. You could chose to have just the radio show and never really have to see any other screen. At least I can on my 15, your 21 may be different.

I hate that screen that comes up each time you start the engine. And yes, I have the screen turned off, but it still comes on when starting the vehicle. I find it really annoying, especially when it's dark outside.

I'd love to know how to calibrate the compass on my 2021 SR-5. Without the nav system it seems you cannot fix the compass which is always wrong

The GPS antenna will be connected to the back of the stereo. Pulling that cable is the only way I can think of.

The GPS system is a receiver, like AM/FM radio. You may want to use it some day. Why mess with it?

I can’t for the life of me figure out why someone would buy a 2020 vehicle and complain it has too many electrical doo-dads. Fer Krist sake man! Sell the modern 4Runner and go find a decent mid 80’s Monte Carlo. You’ll be much happier I promise.

I can't for the life of me understand why people reply to threads that they have no actual advice for and spend their time only trying to shoot down people. Not everyone is like you, thankfully. But since you asked, safety is a simple no-brainer answer. Or miles. Or condition. If your not going to help the OP, close the thread and move on rather than acting all high and mighty. No one cares about your opinion.

You load a black or dark image so at startup you are not annoyed. Instructions are in the manual to show how that option.

In for answers on this on my 21 ORP. I feel we’re past the point that these features are working in favor of the consumer.

I don’t think Toyota Issa intrusive as some other makes, but would like to disable GPS tracking/location reporting. What can the dealer effectively disable?

Disconnecting GPS antenna will prevent pinpoint location, but I assume the communication module still reports location based on cell tower proximity.

Any other experiences out there?

Wrapping the truck in aluminum foil should do the trick.

Don't forget to take the battery and sim card out of your flip phone whenever you drive as well.
