TDR PRO Sequoia ---- straight talk?
Does anybody have one?
I was at the dealer today and stumbled across a 2021-TDR PRO Sequoia. Took it for a test ride and like it a lot. The dealer is bring aggressive - taking $2000 off the MSRP - $65,900.
I plan to keep the 4runner.
To be fair, I can't see spending $87,000 on a LandCruiser - there are no ventura editions or TDR PRO 4runners available in New England.
I have a road trip - Boston to FLA mid next week and this could be a solution to taking the 4runner.....with the dog (80lbs lab).
The dealer will hold the price for me until COB on the 1st.
The on line reviews are luke warm - old design, no lockers (which i would probably never use)
ANY THOUGHTS ???
Thanks

I think that the Sequoia is a good buy. Roomy...so much room!! But for me, the interior bits are a bit cheap for the price. (Then again, LC interior is cheap too.). It is too big and the ride is not all that great.
Besides being roomy, i think that it’s 4wd system is the best! I love that you can run in 2wd!
To play devil’s advocate...have you considered a Lexus GX, which you can buy a really nice one at that price. GX is more luxurious. More nimble. But it is a 4runner underneath.

Yes, any specific questions?
If you're ok with severely outdated, but (likely) very reliable and a super spacious car go for it. Buy a 2020 Pro instead for less. Exact same car that is likely cheaper (unless you want Lunar Rock). Likely better APR if doing any financing through Toyota too. If the dealer will sell it $2k below MSRP today, they will do it tomorrow. These things don't fly off lots. Don't get roped into their pathetic tactics.

Yep, if you like it and have the $$$ I think the Sequoia would be a great highway cruiser for a LONG time. Outdated? So what, Its reliable and durable and has what you need, go for it. See if they'll go "out the door" for the quoted price.

Do you have any kids? With its captain chairs in the 2nd row I'd say it makes for a great family hauler and overland rig. Not so much a crawler though. Yes it's severely outdated but if you want that big, strong, thirsty V8 before they're gone then there aren't going to be too many choices in the Toyota family. I guess it depends on your purpose and focus of the vehicle. If purely off-road then 4Runner, LC and even the LX are better choices. If all around family vehicle then the Sequoia is probably a good choice.

I should've also said that unless you want a Pro specific color, get a Limited or Platinum instead depending on what features you want. Grille is an easy swap. Fogs are probably easy to switch if you care. Rack, rims and boards are nothing special. Fox suspension rides similar to the Limited. Platinum is even smoother. Platinum seats are more comfortable (softer). I'd take A/C perforated seats over black leather when taking into consideration the A/C is inadequate. You can get rear entertainment, memory wheel/seats/mirrors, an interior color that doesn't get crazy hot, retractable sun shades, better steering wheel on the Platinum (leather is already wearing down on the Pro and I've only been driving it for 7 months), second row center console or middle seat depending on preference (I would've taken a middle seat so the entire back could be flat for the dogs and car camping), blah blah. But if you like Lunar Rock then by all means get a Pro. If the Pro was under $60k it would be a harder decision. It really shouldn't cost more than a Limited.

Is $2k off of a $60k plus rig really considered being aggressive?

It’s a bad deal for a vehicle that will sit on the dealer’s lot for a very long long time.

I can't take the peer pressure of lexus ownership.. real overhang in the northeast- ha and the non moveable tail gate window would cause a dog revolt..

good heads up on that --its a way better value, but when I asked about that model they said there were none in new england. I was a bit surprised that the Sequoia TRD PRO did no have locking rear dif or crawl control, like the 4Runner TDR PRO. The ride of the Sequoia TDR PRO is way better than the standard Sequoia...........way to soft

it is a bit dated----- but I have a 99 landcruiser, that has a tape deck and a power antenna. I bought it new and have replaced tires and rakes......its bullet proof and a throwback........so the TDR PRO seems like a space age ride compared to that. BTW the write ups were really negative....

good points ----we had kids, but they grew up and have their own 4runners now, well one went to the taco TDR PRO, but I get that.
I like the seat layout, but its all about the dog at this point --- lab. The 4runner does not have rear AC and he bakes in the way back. I have been using the 99 LC to haul him on really hot days.
To be candid I did taped the brakes on the deal...........the feedback froze me on the real value of the deal. I talked to a few other toyota guys and they also said that the Sequoia TRD PRO's are sitting on the lots in their area....
Thanks for al the help here!

These are really good points----I did go to another dealer and took a limited out. I found the suspension / ride to be spongy and soft.....hope I was not overthinking the ride, but to me it felt really different.
My wife has a 4runner limited, and the ventilated seats are a really functional addition and I am sure I would get blow back for buying a rig that does not have them. The other thing you pointed out--- memory seats, what a whiff. I did not notice that, and it's a big deal for us as every time my wife adjusts the seat, I can never get it back to the spot I liked........crazy. I have talked myself out of this deal and will keep looking. While this felt like interesting match.....I am pretty sure its not going to be the right long term thing for me..... so thanks for dropping all the science on me. It really helped

right --- and a fair point. I know 4runners inside and out, this was a wild card, and really helpful that you guys have provided some straight talk.
