I recall there were talk about car technology being too complicated for the average joe, so authorities were going to make it illegal to work on your own car in your own garage. Fast forward to today and it's a reality in Sacramento.
I don't see any reason why that law will stay just in that area too.

Do you always stir the pot like this or just when you're assured of anonymity?

It was a legit question. California is a Sanctuary State for Illegals but not for gear heads? Supreme Court Won’t Hear Case on California Sanctuary Law - The New York Times
Are you always such a flake to strangers on the internet?

The odometer.com article mentions that the law is supposed to prevent repair businesses from operating in residential areas.
Don’t the existing zoning laws cover that?

Kind of a sketchy website, but my favorite part of the article is Restricted tools include air compressors, impact wrenches, and even tools as simple as torque wrenches. The law further defines these items as “tools not normally found in a residence.”
Yea we wouldn’t to torque anything to spec in anything ever or have an impact wrench because you know you need a lot of torque for some projects some time

No wonder they are trying to escape Kalifornia. As said, just keep driving on past here, maybe N.Y. wants you.
Destroy any possibility of ingenuity and self reliance.

I see this as a law that will be semi hard to enforce, how will they know what goes on behind closed garage doors.
That being said I guess the law probably restricts sales of auto part to private persons, even if that's not mentioned in the law many of the auto parts stores are going to suffer badly and have to go out of business, I'm guessing well over 50% or more of their sales are to private persons!!

Ya seems like they’re just trying to work towards eventually trying to keep people from changing their oil on the street in front of their house

It's already illegal under almost every city code, California or otherwise, to work on (or wash) a vehicle in the street...
