Where do you recycle parts?

I'm curious what most of you do with parts that aren't surcharged core fees like batteries, alternators, cat, etc.

For those of you that don't just throw them away or "save them for a rainy day," what do you do with parts that you've replaced?

Water pump
Piston
Tensioner assembly
Caliper
Headlight assembly
etc

Y'know, parts that are more than just little scraps of trash, but nothing that seems to be popular enough for regular rebuilds.

I've had a couple parts up for some time to give away to a good home (not a junk pile) for effort, but it just doesn't happen.

Curious what most of you do that hate making trash like me.

I've packed them together in lots and sold them on craigslist, cheap. Wheels and tires free to a local used tire place. The rest of the stuff l drop off at the local P&P, they recycle metal, batteries etc. I prefer to not throw stuff away but when it's time to get rid of it sometime its gotta go.

Reminds me, I just moved a heavy box out of the way in the garage with a steering gear and 2 calipers in it so...

Thumbs up

"I prefer to not throw stuff away but when it's time to get rid of it sometime its gotta go."

Exactly. Hate dumping what some one can turn over, but can't stand more junk than space even more.

Never thought of the combo idea. Good thought.

What's a P&P? (Gonna duh on this one)

Fortunate here, anything metal I can take out to the curb and usually it's gone within an hour.

I take my old car parts and fluids to a local independent mechanic. He is happy to take them, and it’s free to me. He gets paid per pound/gallon by the recycler who picks up his stuff, so I imagine he’ll take whatever people bring to him.

Good question. Love to hear a more experienced person's response.

I am fortunate that I get a lot of good answers at the Advanced Auto closest to me (not the cases some others near by). But I also know some of the time knowledge is limited 9to within the wallS of the business. That's why I like hearing ideas like taking it to the local mechanic (true mechanic) who either knows what to make use of, rebuild, resell, or recycle. Think that's my next go-to from now on. Anything he says no to goes to recycling.

Thanks KayB. The batteries are "mandatory" core items. Main thing I think we're pondering over are those things that don't have core exchanges or obvious rebuild sources around them.

Hoard parts till I die. you never know what you a r a buddy may need 5+10 years from now.

Find a good place or shelf for long term storage. If you put stuff in bins or boxes label the box so you know whats in there when looking for things.
