Canadian on wait list for 2021 4runner TRD Pro

I live in Calgary AB, Canada and I recently put a small deposit down with my local Toyota dealership to track down a 2021 4Runner TRD Pro in lunar rock or magnetic grey metallic.
I've done my research and I know any year of the 4Runner TRD Pro is hard to come by, especially the 20-21 years.
The salesmen I'm working with said the wait time will likely be at least 3-6months+

My questions are:

-Has anyone in Canada had any recent experience purchasing a 21 4Runner TRD Pro from a dealer? If so, how long did it take?
-Any advice on how to speed up the process?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

JG

I believe there's a semi conductor chip shortage that is affecting toyota and some of the other large automakers. It is impacting dealer inventory and part of the reason used car prices are rising in some areas

I don't think there's much you can do to speed up the process, perhaps check out some dealers in smaller cities, or consider buying slightly used CPO if you don't want to wait

Funny you mention the semi conductor chip shortage supply! I was reading into that today.

Do you happen to know if you have to put a deposit down at each dealership that sources a vehicle for you?

Appreciate the info.

I think the deposit situation will be dealer specific. 3-6+ months lead time is a long time to have money tied up, especially if it's more than a couple hundred $

I was at my local toyota dealer the other day for service and took a look around. they had not a single 4 runner on the lot, new or used

I was listening to an auto radio show on AM radio, the host was saying by july many dealers could be out of new cars to sell. which is why many of them are looking for trades to build up used car inventory. I don't know if this is in fact a true statement but just another factoid

it's a difficult time to need a new vehicle, used prices have actually gone up which has not occurred since the late 1960s according to the article I read

I was on auto trader and I found 13 new 4runners in the province of ontario. a couple of them were listed at $65K Canadian $. I found a NEW 2021 lexus rx350 F sport listed at $67K Canadian $. absolutely crazy to think a 4runner is pricing near a lexus

I couldn't agree more - we're expecting our first child any day now (another reason why we need a new vehicle) so having a deposit in place for an undetermined amount of time is not ideal. Also haven't been very impressed with the communication from the dealer, they've gone radio silent since I put the deposit in place.

I totally agree re new car prices! I've been keeping my eye on 4Runner's for sale on Autrotrader over the last 1.5yrs and prices have steadily gone up.

Why spec of 4runner do you own?

I have a 2012 limited, 153K miles, and only now just replaced my original xreas, my lift gate support pistons + new skid plates (I just wanted new / better skids). other than that, only regular maintenance and wear items - the thing is a damn tank, the factory maintenance schedule was followed to a tee though. AC still blows ice cold, probbaly helps that 8 months of the year AC is not required

the TRD PRO is so nice but probably more rare than the limited with third row seats which is why you are waiting so long. I see a lot of SR5s, some TE around here but very few limited and even fewer TRD PROs

also congratulations on the incoming baby!

I think it's not just the TRD Pro being hard to track down. Here where I am the Toyota new car lot is 2/3rds empty. The used car lot is 90% empty.
Pandemic, Chips, shipping, etc are to blame according to the Toyota sales guys and parts guys.
