New Ford Maverick

When the Maverick was around, when I was a kid, it was a tin box a little larger than the Pinto. Pinto means penis btw in Portuguese. The Brazilians nicknamed Bill Clinton "Bill Pinto" after that little incident with that Monica trash bag.

Now Fords be bringing it backs as a pick up based on a Bronco platform assembled in Mexico.

whoopeee!

Whoever filmed that in portrait is an *******.

As for the truck. We may get a low tier version in its second model year. It would be for the lumber yard or home depot runs and hauling bikes around for the kid. Perfect for that and would at least stop all the damage I've done to the 4Runner's interior (or whatever midsize SUV we have by then).

I thought it was built off the escape platform, though. Maybe the escape and bronco sport are the same?

I used have a low opinion of unibody trucks but it actually makes more sense for our life than a BOF.

There might be a good reason why I don’t work in marketing, but I think it’s a bad idea for Ford to use the Maverick name for a truck. I don’t have fond memories of the Maverick car, so I wouldn’t use the Maverick name for anything.

Dodge reintroduced the Dart, and to me it bears no resemblance to the Dart of the 60’s and 70’s.

What’s up with the Ford marketing people?

That Mustang thing is not a Mustang either.

Just come up with another friggin’ name already!

The Ford marketing people that I worked with were not “Car People”. They were not interested in the history of the vehicle lines. Most were from top schools and thought they should be VP’s within 5 years. I hated working with them.

If I was in the market for a commuter this would be top of the list. Ford gave special pricing to those who pre ordered. 40mpg and a bed big enough for most people. It wouldn't replace my Dodge Cummins. It has the same mpg and pricing as a Honda Civic.

I agree.

They might as well named it the Ranchero.

Same with the new Blazer.

Kind of like "Jeep" or for that matter, "4Runner" which is a luxo-mall crawler compared to the first-year 4Runner.

At least they didn’t name it Edsel ...

Those in charge of such stuff as naming vehicles are likely too young to have known the old classic models and names and the vehicles that were graced with those names. Means nothing to them.

As for me, I kind of like the Maverick name for use on a trucklet. Congers up a cowboy theme, more applicable to a truck than a car.

Ranchero might be a better name for that Ford, since that original car was simply the station wagon of the mid size lineup of Ford cars with the back roof essentially sawed off and the seats and carpets removed. But I’m happy with Maverick as well.

Back in the mid 1970s I had a 1965 Ford Ranchero with the 283 high pro engine and dual exhaust. I had chrome wheels and moon hubcaps on it, otherwise it was stock. No power steering, no power brakes. Rode like a buckboard, was noisy but was quick.
