Bedliner versus Plastidip

Guys,

Looking for some decent threads (here or elsewhere) that discusses the merits of bedliner for bumpers, valances, trim, etc., versus Plastidip. I can't get consistent results with Plastidip. And yes, I watched quite a number of videos on application technique(s).

I don't have enough DIY projects to justify buying dedicated spray equipment for Plastidip.

Thanks!
G

Bed liner and Plastidip are 2 completely different things. Plastidip on a bumper, wheels, etc. will basically just give you color on that item; it will not protect anything like bed liner would.

I know that they are two separate products. I'm curious about the application techniques in terms of prep etc.

Are there any decent roller applied bed liner products? Trying to cut down on the PITA factor with respect to masking off areas, overspray, etc.

I used a roll on bedliner for the storage compartment I made for our 4R. It is messy and smelly AF.
Consistency was fine but it has faded a bit since.
One thing I do not recommend is doing bedliner for anything that goes inside the truck. I had to leave the storage compartment outdoors for 2 months to let the smell dissipate.

My opinion on bedliner on a truck exterior is that it is ugly AF. For any painted sheetmetal or plastic you are far better off just having it wrapped. My wrap job has lasted 4 years and still looks great except where I have some trail rash on the wrap at the two front fender flares.

Steel bumpers and rock rails are fine in bedliner but may be a pain to repair once it starts chipping off.

There are a few old 4x4 trucks around here that have had their bodies completely covered in bedliner, of various colors.

Ditto what mscot wrote. I also used roll-on bedliner on a platform for my 4runner. It’s been bulletproof in use, but really stunk for months inside the car.
