Where the hell can I find a new 4Runner?

What's up, folks. I came into an unexpected few thousand dollars and want to upgrade from my 2008 4Runner to a new one. Buying used would save me next to nothing right now since prices are unsustainably high and any loan would be upside down once the bubble bursts. I'm in Michigan and can't find anything but 2019's that they are asking $50k for. So is anyone finding 4Runners at dealers anywhere? Every dealer I found has plenty on their website and almost none on their lots. If you call, they just lie to get you to come in only to find the one your looking at is "in transit".
Just wondering if maybe the 2022 models are about to hit and there just aren't any 21's out there or if I'm just getting lied to by salesman who don't want me to buy elsewhere so they lie about "in transit" inventory.

Partially venting here but partially a legit question: Where the hell can I find one??

You can order one. I’m ordering mine next week. 10-12 week lead time for my dealership. The microchip shortage is a struggle right now. GL in finding one!

You must not be paying much attention to the news. The shortage of integrated circuit chips has seriously crimped production of all vehicles. Toyota did a better job of managing their supply chains than anyone else, but even they are starting to be affected and will cut production by about 40% starting this month. What all of this has led to is a severe shortage of new vehicles across all manufacturers. That's why nobody has any 4Runners (or anything else) on the lot.

As proof, you might want to drive around and look at any and all new vehicle dealerships. What you'll find are largely empty lots. The largest Chevrolet dealership in the entire US is a few miles from our house. They usually have a full lot plus 4 more overflow lots brimming with new cars and trucks. All of the overflow lots are completely empty and the main lot is scary empty.

BTW, the law of Supply and Demand says that when supply is down and / or demand is up, you're going to pay more. So that extra few thousand you have will just about pay the increaded markup. You might want to wait a bit and pay less.

I'm well aware of the shortage, as proven by my "bubble burst" comment. The shortage caused a bubble, at some point there will be no shortage, said bubble shall burst. The End. I was just asking if anyone knew where I might be able to buy one, not why I can't buy one. I am well aware of the global shortage that has been on the news every day for over year. lol
I live in a winter weather state, which 4x4s sell better in. For all I know they are more available in the warm weather states. Who knows. That's why I asked. Dealership and car sales websites do not reflect inventory correctly anymore so doing a search is useless.

I’d start with autotrader and go from there.

I’m not sure if warmer climates have more, or not. Seems like Toyota allocations would be lower there if the demand is lowered, erasing the hope of finding more down there.

Yeah "hope" is fading for sure lol. I'm not opposed to ordering a new one but was hoping to drive it home rather than wait 10 weeks. Especially since most people that I know that have been ordering cars have had their orders delayed then delayed then delayed again. My feeling is that they were being lied to from the start and that the dealer actually has no clue when the cars will be delivered. But telling someone there will be a 4 month wait screams "buy from somewhere else" so I think they just don't say it lol.

In late July I put a deposit down with local dealer. Essentially I had my choice of 2-4 that were in transit that fit the trim level I wanted. I chose based on color and which one was closer to delivery.

From what I gathered they are all sold before they hit the lot. Maybe not 4 weeks out but still there isn't unsold inventory on the lot. in my case I was trading a 2019 trd orp premium for an identical 2021. Didn't need to see it in person. OP could test drive and look at the 2019's on the lot to get a feel for the new ones. Overall there's not much difference.

Pandemic bro. I didn’t have a motor for my HVAC for 6 months, and when I tried to just pay $10k for a new unit, 12 months.

Suck it up and take what you can get if it has to be now.

There are still lots of Toyotas and other vehicles at my local auto mall, Roseville Auto Mall. It's the largest one in Northern California. But that'd be a loooong drive to Michigan.

They are out there but like you said are getting harder to find.

My local dealer in Freehold NJ has 8 or so (they claim...) on the lot as of last night; again, a bit of a drive for you

I appreciate the info. The dealers around here have some on the lot but they are all already sold. I wish they would just take them off the damn websites. lol

yeah, hence my 'so they claim' line. when I bought mine in May the ones they 'said' they had on the lot were all spoken for but I was lucky enough to get one that was afloat.

It has been pretty challenging for me as well locating a 4Runner but I wanted a TRD Pro in either Lunar Rock or Magnetic Gray. Half of the dealerships already marked them up or presold.

So I put down a deposit for a 22' MGM TRD Pro instead at MSRP and I'm patient enough to wait. They did call me last week to see if I wanted the new Lime Rush TRD Pro but I declined, not a fan of that color.

A good Toyota dealership would keep you updated as they get allocated. I'm going 3 hours away from where I live to buy mine because my local dealers suck at communicating and following up with me plus I got tired of calling them. This is me speaking with over a dozen dealers within a 250 miles range. Good luck though, hope you find one.
