2021 TRD Pro vs Offroad premium

My local dealership has a 2021 with 1,200 miles on it that they are selling as used. I ran the vin and it came back as a TRD Offroad Premium that has never been titled. The floor mats have TRD Pro on them. With an asking price of $54,000, I'm guessing the dealership is pricing this thing as a Pro, but it doesn't have the big rack on top and it doesn't say Pro on the side. I guess my question is, why would an Off-road premium have Pro floor mats? If it isn't a Pro then it is way overpriced.

Maybe they just had an extra set of floor mats sitting around. They are pricing it high because all the trillion dollar giveaways are creating demand without doing anything about supply. Welcome to the 1970s.

Just look at the shocks, man!

Be patient. I would not buy now unless I absolutely had to and in that case I would look elsewhere. Last time I checked for fun X-Terras could be found for a reasonable price.

Supply is off because of production and shipping issues, give it a few more months.

Sticker on an Off-road premium is around $44,000. They have lost their minds if they think I'm going to pay $11,000 over sticker for a "used" one.

Even if it is TRD Pro, you would be paying for a set of shocks that costs around 2,600-2,700 and a special color (if that's what you choose).

The prices at the local dealership for new are normal but they only have like 4 new 4Runners total. They normally have dozens.

+1, skip it...
if it dont have the shocks, you must acquit .wait...

yeah, Toyo Corp. is messing around. they have cancelled the new LCs from coming to the USA yet they tease us with them on the yootubez, they stopped offering the FJs too, and new versions of Tundras, Tacos, and maybe even Sequ's are coming out too...youve got to know they want to overprice whats out there now. I would say shop around also...

and i cant brag about it enough... picked up my SR5, 12k miles on it in the same model yr as i purchased it, for $27.5- when they are asking 38k for them, i know i got lucky...and now they want to offer me 15-18k for it to trade in for something else...prices are WAY out of wack these days.

and to be honest, for the amount of money they are asking for that truck you speak of...if i didnt have college tuition to pay, i'd trade minez in for a used LC if i could.

Well, then, it's an Off Road Premium. You will not get a dealer to supply the Pro roof-rack, shocks, etc.

The Pro is a specific package. It does not sound like the one you're looking at *is* a Pro.

That said, I like the price/features for my TRD Off Road (Premium). But I wouldn't want to overpay for it, either

Holy crap! Assuming it's Baldwin Toyota, they have an '18 SR5 Sport with 41K on it for $44,000. That's insane. What are people smoking that would pay that much for it? My '18 SR5 Premium was $28,500 with 31K miles.

I know it would be a hike from MO to OH, but Classic Toyota has a '19 Certified SR5 for $35,000. I have purchased several cars from Mario there, and it has always been a great experience.

I don't think there is a such thing as an 18 SR5 Sport.

Perhaps other peoples’ money? And/or maybe current buyers assume prices will keep going up.

As for used 4runners, I just saw a listing wanting 24k for a 2007 4runner Limited v8 with 138k miles in CO!

If I ever have money to burn, I'll supercharge it

Its crazy times for dealers who cannot get enough supply of good trucks and cars from factories which don't have enough components and raw materials.

Used 4Runners with low mileage here are selling for above what 2022s are selling for new. TRD OffRoad and Pro models with light mileage are well above what they sold for new.

My 2015 Xterra Pro-4X got traded well above black book value. It had 94K km and black book Canadian values would normally be under $ 20k yet the dealer got me above $ 23k plus tax. (it was in great condition with new HD battery, performance exhaust etc. ) but 3 or 4k above Canadian Black book made it easier for me to buy new.

You can get Pro accessories added after the fact. ex. my 2021 Off Road Premium had an upgrade to the same wheels that come on the Pro. Could have had the dealer add more things that were "Pro".

That technicality aside, this is a terrible deal where a nearly new ORP is marked up substantially over MSRP on new unit. Good for the OP to look up the VIN to confirm the actual model. Someone may not take that effort and massively overpay thinking it's a Pro

I’m not sure this will end. 20 years ago they started just in time delivery, mainly from China and made a lot of money. I think car companies have engineered this. There is no chip shortage. I think they will move to online sales with a fixed price and 3 month wait time for your vehicle. There will be a few dealerships where you can test drive a few models. No overhead or offering discounts to move inventory they shouldn’t have made.

There is most definitely a chip shortage, but I agree that you are on to something. They have learned from this experience and due to inventory issues have not had to commit to expensive Floor Plans and tons of locked up capital. Online ordering and wait times are here for the foreseeable future.
