RANT: lifted trucks and aftermarket lights
Hey all,
For those of you who are lifted and/or have aftermarket headlights, AIM THE FU@KING HEADLIGHTS!
I saw a lifted truck last night on the passing lane…with the brightest LEDs i have ever seen…even with my auto-dimming rear view mirrors, the lights were hitting my retinas with full force…heck, i could even feel the “heat” of the lights in my LC!
Fu@king inconsiderate POS. Even if your rig is not lifted and you install aftermarket HIDs/LEDs, you need to aim them correctly!! You may see well, but you’re causing other drivers to not. And that creates more hazard for everyone!

Agreed 100%....every douche around in Nashville with a lifted 3/4 ton pickup and 22 inch wheels does not seem to know how to adjust headlights. I routinely blast them back with my front or rear light bar as needed.

Didn't they teach you to not be the deer in the headlighs in drivers ed ?
Maybe you had to pay for drivers training and missed the answer on
what to do in that case?

Drivers ed is based on the incorrect assumption that the other vehicle is legal.

Thanks to this thread by Thai, I adjusted my headlights today. I didn’t know it was so easy - just an 8mm socket behind each headlight and aiming my 4R at a wall.
With my lift, I eliminated the rake in my 4R, so I’m sure the headlights were aiming higher than stock. When I drove at night, street signs were brighter than they used to be. Only a few times in the past year or two, other cars flashed their brights at me. I don’t have aftermarket HIDs/LEDs.
I lowered the aim at least 3-4” at 25’. I just did a quick test drive, and street signs weren’t super bright anymore! I think my headlights are aimed a lot better now.

Agreed, and when I was in drivers ED, lights were nowhere near that bright. Its
insane how bright headlights have gotten. I am constantly getting flashed when I drive my 16 Corolla.

A similar experience recently caused me to consider a rear facing spot on the roof rack.

When I was in high school, I delivered pizza. I had a super bright spot light, like one million candlepower, to shine at houses to find addresses (pre-GPS days). That spot light worked great if I needed to let someone know their brights were on! I had to aim it backwards once because the car following me had his brights on (in traffic).

In my juvenile delinquent days, a friend had a giant stepside Chevy on 40s that we would ravage and pillage in. Had one of those million candlepower lights mounted beside the rear plate so anyone chasing us after we vandalized their trash cans or mail box couldn't read it lol.
It was a simpler time.

Thanks for the reminder. Will put this on the list of things to do when replacing the headlights in my son's 2007.

OP should edit his original post and quote this. I think most people (myself included) don't really know how to properly adjust headlights.

Parents lifted their wrangler 2 inches, and 2 years later they still haven't aimed the headlights. Its so bad that the low beams don't even reach the ground, the high beams have the lowest section shooting directly into people's eyes. I keep telling them to aim them, they have the money to pay someone to do it.
Its not even practical, my Dad complained how dim they were driving at night. Go figure, half the light is going into the sky.
