That article explains a lot of it. Toyota didn't see chip and other supply chain issues until most of the 21s had already been built and sold.
It may affect the 22s.
Toyota had stockpiled semiconductor chips ahead of the shortage. They already saw it coming ahead of time and was able to continue making vehicles when others didn't. At the Roseville automall near my house, over the summer every dealership was either low or empty (Subaru only had 6 vehicles on their entire lot) but the Toyota dealership was full.
I wonder what the sales were for Toyota Canada. New 4Runners are very much in demand and have outsold supply. For 2021, and 2022 will be a repeat of last year. Low mileage used ones sell more than new and I have never seen that for any other vehicle models.
