Is a Certified Pre owned from a dealer better than a Carvana check over?
Is a Certified Toyota Preowned 4Runner in better mechanical check than a 4 runner bought from Carvana (They have a 150 point check)?

Do a google search for “carvana fraud”.
Personally, I would never buy a used car online.

Yikes!! I had no idea. Thanks!
in addition to multiple main stream media articles, Reddit has some interesting threads as well: Carvana reviews and discussion

So what is going to happen to their silly “vending machine”? Might make a nifty high tech garage …

Looks like the question has been resolved already, but . . .
Yes. The certified Toyota warranty means a lot - even in the reliable 4runner

CPO Toyota usually means the factory warranty is extended, and the vehicle is checked over to some degree by mechanics familiar with Toyotas... so that would mean a lot to me.
A neighbor bought a couple year old Hyundai SUV off Carvana and was happy, until it started falling apart including a major transmission issue. I felt bad for her. It seemed like she had no warranty at all.
Meanwhile, knock on wood, I'm at 145,000 miles in a 2011 relic with basically zero unexpected maintenance or repair items.

I bought my 2020 ORP through Carvana and it was 99% smooth sailing. They just had to delay delivery once, for a week, but after that it was great. Got my permanent plates 1 week after I took delivery, title in hand 4 weeks after I took delivery of the vehicle. Maybe it's because I paid it all off at once? I dunno.

FWIW...my personal experience with a car my daughter bought from carvana....
vehicle was misrepresented. returned it within the time period and go our money back. I would not buy from them. From the conversation I had with the guy in the back of the dealer, they basically wash and vacuum them out. then flip em. no real repairs or "reconditioning".

The other day, Carvana lost its license to sell used cars in Illinois over title/registration issues.

They already were banned in N Carolina.
Investigations pending in another dozen states and they're laying-off hundreds of people.

Their title issues are a mess. A guy that works with me went over a year on temp tags before they told him they wanted the car back. At least they offered what he paid so he got a free year

Read ALL of the advantages they offer as a certified vehicle here. Its pretty thorough: toyotacertified.com
I bought my 18 TRD OR as a 29k mile Toyota certified. Sales guy had no idea they did a lot of 4Runners. It was the first one he had seen. Apparently they tend to be the mid range+ cars to keep soccer moms, budget minded people and kids in college bought into the Toyota family with predictable service and warranty.

I have seen many CPO vehicles with issues on the lot for sale. You still have to have a keen eye. They're all a scam - welcoming words with no substance. Typical business operations.
