Huge Ad Workaround

I'm sure I'm not the only one to notice the huge ads taking up half their desktop. Thought this might be of use to someone. Obviously, please remove if not allowed.

I place a lot of value on this forum. I'm not against ads and I'd even be willing to pay a membership fee to remove them but these huge ads make the site annoying and difficult to use.

I only know about Chrome and Firefox but both have extensions that allow me to right click and remove an element on the screen. I originally installed these extensions so I wouldn't have to look at those stupid smilies, emojis and animated gifs. Yeah, get off my lawn.

Point is, I discovered if I right click near the top of the ads section, around "Recommended" or "Sponsored by" and then click "Remove element", the sidebar returns to its intended size. Sometimes it takes a couple tries but it's worth it to me.

I realize there are other options, like ad blockers, but the ads pay for this site so until there's some sort of membership option to replace that income, I'm cool with ads - regular-sized ads.

Just search for an extension for your browser to remove elements.

Yup, noscript and ublock/adblock are essential to having a Usable internet.

I use noscript constantly... here I have blocked pretty much everything static ( looks like I only have the bar with forum tools down through the listing of threads, nothing else shows). True for the sites I visit frequently, I trim everything back to just the essential parts I want.

Adblock without regret. I’d pay a membership fee too. But for now the site can benefit from the free content I share.

Do not apologize to advertisers. They are the scum of the earth.

The clickbait ad below the sidebar on the right got to be so big the other day that I installed an adblocker just so I didn't have to deal with the main board section being less than half the width of the screen due to the huge side ad.

I’m impartial to using adblock on forums since it costs money to host them and that [ads] is how they make money.

But then I will use my phone and realize just how annoying those banner ads are

Its a plug in with the forum software. It only happens on occasion to me. Usually the ad with the hot GILFs with big boobs. I guess they are hitting their demographic when I get it.

I use an iPad for surfing the net. What gets me is the incessant Toyota Tundra videos that come up with each switch of the page and take up about 45% of the screen. Clicking the X on the video requires two to four attempts to get it to go away, only to have it come back up when I finish the page and switch to the next.

The regular ads that sometimes show up at the right side of the page are easy to ignore since they are out of the frame with the posts. The video makes reading all but a few lines impossible.
