Low mileage, premium price?

Hello,

Hope I can get a few opinions. I am looking at a very low mileage 07' 6cyl. It is in great shape, frame is definitely good. Totally stock. The only issue is the price is at a premium.

For the same money I could find a 10 or 11' with 150-170k miles, or maybe even fewer miles.

I do know the 07' will have many rusty bolts etc. just because of the life its led, but it is clean otherwise.

Which way would you go on this? Looking for any opinions.

Not enough info on the 07, a link if possible would make it easier for anyone to give you a good opinion if it's worth the money.

Low mileage, premium price?

How much are they asking?

I just paid $10k and some change for my ‘07 SR5 with a V8, although it had 195k miles on it.

4Runners aren’t cheap, no matter the year but well worth the price of admission.

07 Limited V6., about 40k miles. They are asking 25 for it. Frame is in good shape as is the rest of the truck. Things like exhaust bolts, exhaust manifold bolts, caliper bolts etc have enough corrosion that they will be difficult to deal with if I ever have to, just because its an 07, nothing out of the ordinary.

I mean with vehicle prices these days, nothing surprises me anymore! It's only worth what you are willing to pay for it.

It sounds high, but I saw a 3rd gen(2001) 4x4 limited in great shape with 23k miles in great shape go for over $25k on one of the auction sights recently.

I will say this though - in my opinion they are worth the money. I know I overpaid for mine, but if I am gonna overpay for ANY vehicle, it's gonna be a 4Runner.

This. Right now is the worst time in the history of personal transportation to buy a used car. If you absolutely must, you are going to pay too much.

Well the low mileage is a great selling point and will demand a higher price...but you still didn't include some info that will affect what it's worth, like 2WD or 4WD(?), do you know if it's was parked in a garage in the winter or outside.

That all being said if it's a 4WD and someone wants it they may pay close to that for it...but in my mind around $18,000 to $20,000 would be the highest I would pay for it.

That all being said I think the price reflects the higher cost of used vehicles in the past year....but from what I've been reading and what most sellers are saying those high resale prices and trade ins prices or dropping fast of late, especially trade ins, some were offered upper 40s to mid 50s for late models T4Rs (2019 in 2 cases) trade ins prices around 6 to 9 months ago and now the best the have been offered is upper 30s to mid to upper 40s now!!

Indeed. We are in a crazy time with vehicles. I had made money off of another vehicle sale but I knew I was gonna have to spend more money to get what I wanted. And I wanted a 4Runner.

OP, have you considered looking at maybe an older/higher mileage? These things are solid and perform well even at high miles. I've just replaced a leaky radiator on mine and that was the most *Major* thing that has had to be replaced in my ownership or the first owners. Here in a week and a half I'm taking it on a 3000mile trip across the USA with some mild soft roading included and couldn't feel more confident it's going to do great!

there you go. If you are selling another vehicle at a premium at the same time, it can be a wash.

If you plan on using it for a long time, the low mileage is a LOT more important than the year!

Is there such a thing as too low a mileage? 40K on an '07 is ~2600 miles a year and ~7 miles a day on average, not even enough to get close to the OCI. Now Blackstone has told me on their analyses of our Acura's oil that going a couple of years is okay with today's oils as they don't deteriorate over time, but oil aside, I just might be a shade concerned over a vehicle that has spent most of 15 years just sitting around.

And I'm curious to know what "good shape" means for the frame if numerous fasteners are corroded enough to be a problem. I've had an '07 since 2014 and haven't had to deal with a rusted bolt yet (just jinxed myself) so the age itself didn't create the rust.

Hard pass at $25K without knowing a lot more.

Crack pipe. Unless that comes with 10k in the glovebox, hell no. MAYYYYYBE if it was a V8, and in pristine condition.

As far as the low miles, I don't see that being a huge selling point on one of these. They go 300k easy, so starting super low mileage isn't necessary. And it's a mid 00s SUV, not a 69 COPO Camaro.

Honestly that miles that low are a red flag for me. It's either been used just a couple miles a day around town on short trips, or it's sat for extended periods of time. Neither scenario is good for a vehicle. Seals and hoses dry up from lack of use, you may find you need to sink a bunch of money into it.

Personally, on a 15 year old vehicle, I'd think somewhere closer to 150k as normal mileage, and would have no problem buying one.

I think if you have 25k to spend on a 15 year old car, look at 100 series, GX470s, or 5th gen 4Rs or GX460. You could probably get a decent 5th gen for that, albeit with closer to 100k (which is fine).

Twenty-five K doesn't seem that bad to me if it only has 40K on the odometer. I paid $43K for a 2019 SR5 Premium that had 17K on the odometer. YOU have seen the car, not us! Look it over regarding rust & leaks=see if there is a service record.

To update the thread so its not ghosted. I went ahead and bought it, sitting in the garage now. I was able to bring the seller down in price.

I drove a higher mileage 5th gen, I liked it but the finance committee (wife) voted down high miles for low miles.

Plan is to keep it for a long time.
