Bad Starter?

Went to turn over the truck this morning after camping the past couple of days and didn't want to turn over. Did slowly once or twice but no start.

Interior lights are on, lights aren't dim, and about a year and a half ago I replaced the alternator so the only thing I can think of is a bad starter.

I jumped my truck with my jump pack, drove 2 hours, turned the truck off then same issue except this time it turn once...wait 2 seconds....turn again.....wait 2 seconds, then it began to turn very slowly but it did start on its own.

Is this a bad starter or a bad battery? I don't have a voltage meter so I guess I could get to an auto parts store and see what's up but wanted to check here first so I have an idea.

It could be a weak battery or it could be your starter is dragging because of a poor connection on the battery cables/starter connector. Interior lights are not a good indicator of battery strength. Neither is a volt meter but it could give you some indication. The starter draws a lot of amps when you're cranking so a good tester would be a battery load tester.

Check your battery terminals to be sure they're nice and clean, no corrosion. Also check the connection at the starter for corrosion. I would get the battery tested next; local parts store cab help. If you take the starter off they could test that too.

Yup...bad battery. Was only cranking at 400 amps and not the 750. Thank you.
