Huge price increases on new Toyotas in Canada

Yesterday I checked the Canadian Toyota site. The 4Runner went up overnight by $4,000 - $5,000! It appears to be right across the board up here. Corollas went up min $3,000. Everything else is up by about 10%.
Not sure if you guys in the states got the same increases?

A dealer would list yours at $62,000 I would say. You would do good to get $55,000 on a private sale.
The next person has to pay that 15% sales tax on your used truck plus find financing on their own. Dealers have a deal with the banks for a reduced financing rate if you buy the used vehicle through the dealer. Let's say 6% now. If a person wants to buy it privately they go to their bank and pay about 9% or more.
Then most people have a trade. The person doesn't pay tax on the trade amount which saves them more money.
The govt and banks will help big business make more money at our expense.

prices will continue to go up as long as people keep buying these ridiculously priced vehicles (not just toyotas). When you can finance a vehicle for 7 years $70K split over that time period is not a significant monthly payment. but add that up over 7 years plus interest and it's astoundingly huge for a depreciating asset

as much as I love my 4runner I'd never buy a new one. when my 2012 goes I'll buy another 5 year old vehicle. I'll let someone else take the depreciation hit, invest the difference and retire just a little bit earlier
